Depends what you want.
For most home lifters, a 'heavy duty' 1500lb capacity bar does fine - you can pick one up from samsfitness, gymdirect or gymandfitness for just over $175. For more serious training you cant go past Australian Barbell Co. They have a powerlifting bar (great for squats/bench/deadlifts as it has no whip) and olympic lifting bars (good for olympic lifts like cleans).

Forget the price difference completely then, you'll be paying 500 for an olympic lifting bar from Australian Barbell Co.
Basically all bars around $175 are static (that is, when you do olympic lifts they dont bend). Unless you're doing olympic lifts all the time I'd recommend against one because they flex easily.
