Default how many different exercises?

I will be start a 4day a week weight training program, upper and lower body split.

I have read to aim for 3 sets of 8-12 reps , but how many different exercises should i do for each workout?

3 or 4 exercises per bodypart is around what most people do.

3 sets of 8-12?
that's a lot to be starting out with. Aim for lower numbers with your compound movements and higher for your isolation exercises.
