I work at a call centre a 2 days a week while I'm at uni. I never actually speak to customers as I just sort and reply to email enquiries.

Since november (end of exams) I've been here full time. I'm about to lose my mind. Its like a storage unit for the freaks and weirdos of society.

GET ME OUTTA HERE!

lol i used to work at a call centre called teleteck (which did calls for telstra) while at uni. I lasted 4 weeks and said screw this. They used to monitor EVERYTHING like how long u went for a piss.. How long u went to lunch. how long your were idle for. How much time u spent scratching your nuts etc etc

And then u had the looneys.. The guys that actually were there for over 6 months. There was a guy there who has been on for 3 years. He was so proud of being a team leader in such an environment.

I was there for a few years in Melbourne some time ago but in different campaigns than you described. i'm not going to defend TeleTech as I have seen and heard some exceptionally colourful events. I wouldn't have lasted 4 hours on your campaign. Some of the things that happened there you wouldn't believe if you were told them. If you want to get an idea, type the company name in to facebook, search groups, there used to be several international haters groups for ex-employees. The horror stories posted will keep you reading for some time.

Ceff, with your campaign, I was told they screwed the contract - basically charging less than it cost them to provide the support. As a result, everyone on it was monitored like a concentration camp so they could maximise time on the phone and minimise the number of heads they had to employ therefore closing the gap between how much they were losing. They then used that campaign as a demonstration to other clients in an attempt to win business - eg look how good we are cos Telstra have given us this campaign. The place was a perfect example of how not to treat people.
