I have this same problem too! I still have the habits of a teenager, I think.
There is an excellent article here on how to be an early riser. How to Become an Early Riser Thing is, it hasn't really worked for me because I'm pretty lazy but hope it provokes some thoughts.Would be interested to hear what Fadi has to say though!

WOW ![]() Let's see if that provokes a response from the mind!!! Devante. P.S. I think I just solved my own challenge!!! How cool am I??? LOL.. |

And consider keeping a training diary to track your progress; when you have the "can't be bothereds" you can look back a few weeks at where you were compared with where you are today and realise how important every session is towards your overall goal. I like the week-to-a-page diaries as I can see how many sessions I've done for the week -- there's no hiding from lazy weeks when the page shows more than a couple of white gaps with no entries in them. |

The article by Steve Pavlina was interesting thank you. He examines two schools of thought regarding rising up early then he presents his own thought on the matter. The first school he says encourages practicality, whilst the second is based on our own biological clock. He has decided that neither is for him but a mix of both where he only sleeps when tired but wakes up at a set time every morning is the way to go. Well Katie, my approach is based on spirituality which I believe if in check, would go on to balance both the mind and the physical body. Now you probably would like to see some evidence of what I had just stated. Before I say another word here, whatever I say from this point onward is due to having been asked a question otherwise the information I’ll be sharing would have been kept to myself…since I’m not a preacher (and don’t/never have liked preachers either). Katie you know that I’m a Muslim, you may also know that in Islam there are the five obligatory prayers prescribed for each and every Muslim to perform throughout his/her daily life. These prayers have set times throughout the day/evening/night. Since we’re discussing the subject of early rising, then I would only discuss the first of all these prayers and that is called the Fajr(Dawn) prayer. I know, everyday when that alarm clock makes its presence known, all we hear in our mind is that chatter box that says: “only few more minutes and I’ll…zzzz….”! Until eventually we master the courage, (especially if it’s freezing outside) and hurriedly get up to only continue with our morning hourly hectic rush rush rush! Weekends and public holidays are like a God’s send…WOW I can sleep in and just laze in bed till Mmmm the afternoon…maybe?!?! Muslims, (practicing Muslims that is) do get up at dawn to perform Fajr prayer every day, holiday, weekends or not. This ritual begins when the boy child becomes 7 and the girl become 9. So yes, you can see how discipline is slowly getting built over the years here where it becomes a second nature…body and spirit connected as one if you like. To separate one from the other is to kill one which would eventually cause an imbalance of the personality. My answer re the time one should go to bed and fall asleep is again accomplished by connecting with the spiritual aspect of one’s being. What I’m saying here is a Muslim is helped into falling asleep by reciting the Qur’an in his mind (which shuts down the “anxiety” chatter box) that usually keeps one from falling into deep sleep. I’ll leave it here and again I ask everyone to treat the above information as just that…information and not as one preaching a sermon on Islamic thoughts etc because that’s not my intention. Now, rise and shine and welcome the day head on! http://ausbb.com/general-topic/10152-flame.html I thank you for your question Katie...Katie! Ah, she's gone back to sleep mate ![]() Fadi.

So your "small" goal today (as opposed to your ultimate goal) is to do the best you can for today. Let me explain; man and women look into the mirror on a daily basis to judge what they see in front of them today and always seem to go away miserably disappointed. I'll tell you why: it's because although they're seeing and judging today's reflection, in reality they are deluding themselves and in fact judging against/on the back of the physique that they have hidden away in their deep subconscious mind, (that physique that belongs to that "ultimate goal"...few months or years down the track and not "today"). But being human, we want to have it all... yesterday! I hope I've made it somewhat clearer my friend. If not, I apologies but you can always ask again. Thank you. Fadi.

Yes that kinda what I thought but needed verification! I'm not sure that I do it exactly that way but similar. I do have to confess that I have NOT wanted to pursue anything with such voracity in a long time! Although the plan is only 80% at this stage. My eating is good but still gaps to master! In any case my current challenge is waking at 6:00 to do 20mins cardio! Will take all option on board and then let all of you know the results! Thanks Devante. P.S. Since staring my programe 3 weeks back I've only missed 3 work outs! Will try and make those up on Sunday's if I possibly can. |

No doubt you'll find this post offensive but you need a kick up the arse if you ever plan to get strong. Its hard, it takes commitment, dedication and a long f**king time. That why 99.9% of people look like crap and are weak as 12yo women. If it was easy everyone would do it.

Nick speaks truth.
Consistent effort over time gets results. Consistent effort over time is not easy, not when we have tv and doritos and drinking beer with mates and other things to distract us.

When strong, disciplined guys like Nick speak up, you should drop that sarcasm generator and listen. Being too much of a pussy to take some harsh, deserved words will get you nowhere.
I'm far from a hard working guy, but I have not missed a session since I started in late October last year. Surprise, surprise, improvements just keep on coming. There's no mental trick, no motivational speech. All you have to do is focusing on dragging your lazy arse to the gym. Don't even think about the question Why. Save the mental trickery for when you're about to attempt a challenging lift or exercise.
