Default How do you stay motivated?

Guys/Gals,

I'm curious to know how everyone here
stays motivated to eat right and hit
the gym to your desired number of days?

Is there any mental tricks everyone uses?,
or talk to themselves when you DON'T feel
like going to gym?

All opinions and suggestions welcome.

Devante.

I"m glad you asked that. i've been meaning to do a special post for a few days now, but have put it off until now.

On saturday past, i saw The Tooth Fairy with my girlfriend & her young son. I wont go into depth & spoil it the storyline or ending for anyone. It's not a bad movie actually...

During the movie, the star Dwayne Johnson keeps reminding children that even though they want to becoming a pro hokey player or guitarist, that there is always going to be somebody a little bit better in the next town, or school, who's going to have that little bit over them. In another time somewhere, there's soembody even better than them! So, it would be better to give up on your dreams, since getting to the top is in reality quite difficult.

To me, this actually gave me great inspiration. For me personally, I suspect that i have the best snatch as well as clean & jerk in my gym, since i suspect i'm the only person at my gym who does those movements. That being said, i only hv to look at the guys at the PTC gym to realize that i've got a long way to go to join that league. So i've got to do everything i can to join that club, in terms of diet, weight & cardio exercise, resting & learning. For me, knowing that there are better (more succesful) athletes quite possibly in the gym from me down the road motivates me to work smarter, faster, harder & stay focused!!

I want to be able eat solid food and move on my own when I'm really old.
That what it boils down to- oh and be able to kick the footy around with the grandchildren when they come.

I know that if I have a double quarter pounder meal I'll be shitting out the eyen of a needle for a day, so I don't eat it.

I've set my goals, and will not stop until I get there. I bought a weights bench a few years ago and used it off and on. The usual crap was done on it like flyes and presses and all that jazz. I went to the gym after reading up on compound weights (mainly on here) and I love it. I cannot wait until the next session and I'm generally itching to get into it on rest days (please let it be know I haven't tried 20 reppers yet haha).

Also, a while ago I was reading a users log on this site (forget which user, doesn't post much now). He said that one day he went to school to pick up his kid, and one of the other kids asked their dad why he didn't have big arms like that guy. I want to be the guy with the big arms when I go to pick up my son from school haha.

Best advice ever...

Think of your goals, write them down, refer to them frequently, and they will eventuate.
This should motivate you automatically.

Having specific goals within a time frame.

Being addicted to the victorious feeling as you lie down exhausted from a good workout.

Checking out the PTC record board and knowing that dozens of recreational lifters in a local gym are kicking your arse. If you have guys like them in your gym, even better!

Plus it's always good entertainment when you're squatting heavy in one rack and there's a guy curling in the next rack (happened to me today).

I grab that big hunk of lard that is my gut and remind myself how bad it is.

Music is a good motivator, that and I really do WANT to achieve my goals, I always remind myself I'll never magically get to the level I want to be at by sitting around or doing a half ass workout and 'hoping' for the best. Sometimes when Im tired or really dont feel up for my workout(like every legs day? lol) instead of sitting there procrastinating which is really bad for motivation, I try and break that train of thought with "JUST DO IT"
