Default Owning and running a gym.

Hey guys,
I'm looking into opening a gym, and was wondering is there any one out there that already has one, or manages one. If so, is there any tips you could give me. I've been training for years, but training in a gym and running a gym are totally different things.

Any advice would be appreciated!

don't own or run a gym , but it would be the same for any business
location, advertising ,
finding a niche group who will you be targeting the weekenders, the pro, semi pro or the fitness type
looking at your demographics find out what sort of people live in the area , lower class or middle class ,
a bit of market research find out what the competition are doing and what you could do better

I tell you what, the only gym i would own would be like the gym from the movie "DodgeBall". "Average Joe's" was the gym, where all the regular guys could come and workout - or not, and have a good time.

I could do that

it's like running any business, you need to research teh supply and demand aspect, figure out if there is enough of a demand to jstify opeingin one up in your area.

especially a local specific business such as a gym requires alot of research into local demographics etc..

Key to making big money when opening a gym...make it a big commercial gym...simple as that. Of course make it as friendly to bodybuilders/powerlifters etc but still run your les mils classes etc etc....thats where the money is.

Fucking Les Mills!!!

You could always go the small PT only type stuff similar to Markos' old garage gym but then your own marketing skills are really being tested.

yeah unfortunately for big bucks, mainstream is where it's at. Niche strength/power can turn over some cash, but it's a lot harder to build up the clientèle.
