Default Is driving a waste of money?

Is there anyone else out there that thinks driving is a waste of money?

Buying the car,Insurance,fuel,rego,maintenance,parking,tolls

I have just recently sold off my car and using bike and or public transport, it's amazing how much simpler it is , no stress and headaches of traffic. The bank balance is looking a lot more healthier

I didn't make the jump straight away, had a test time period put the car away in the back and waited to see how long i could go without it , took a bit of rescheduling of day to day tasks but it is able to do.

With a bus stop a 5min walk away , train station around 15mins , bike path just down the road

Getting the shopping home, we brought a shopping jeep or can get it home delivered

Then one night you feel sick and want to go to the late night chemist for some meds but damn you have no car.

Easy done , i use natural remedies for sickness (most common sickness ) anything to sever i see a doctor. But as i said i checked up all these things before making the jump , chemist, supermarket , doctor everything essential all in easy reach

If for some reason i do need to get somewhere out of reach i can always resort to calling a taxi

I have gone carless too , you will feel much better about yourself and more money to spend

Head over to the cycling section for some great guides on commuting by bike

Me too, but living in Japan it is easier than many other places.Public transport here is largely efficient, affordable and very, very clean and safe.Plus being a fairly densely populated place (although I live in a smaller major city that is way less crowded than others) there is always a 24hr convenience store within walking distance, supermarkets, bars etc.
I have a small station 5 mins walk away and a major station on another line 15mins walk away and a subway line close by.The city I live in is awesome for cycling (except winter) so cycling is a treat.
Cars here are cheap to buy but all the running costs add up so I was happy to let the ex take it with her.

If you use the car sensibly it can work, don't drive to shops when you can walk
get all your chores done in one hit rather then spreading it out over the day
