Stands to reason it would.
Modo, go to a counsellor and stick with that person. That's all I have to say to you.

I'm thinking "maybe". A depressed person is probably more stressed about things (I tend to become v. anxious), leading to higher levels of cortisol in the blood, which makes it harder to gain muscle. I don't know how strong this effect is though.

I don`t know that you are suffering from depression.
Being depressed and having depression are very different.Having gone through about 8 months (8 total, 12 months on and off) of depression after my divorce I can tell you first hand they are different. And then clinical depression is another level altogether. If Timguy is still around? he can correct me if I`m wrong and enlighten us more if I am on the right track (he studies in that field). You are probably physically and mentally burnt out and all the little daily stressors are magnified making you feel down and then the whole negativeness follows. P.S. If you are genuinely depressed don`t be afraid to ask for help and take medication.I was always very anti medication , even refusing to take an aspirin, until I went through it.I popped that first pill and 30 mins later I was human again. They were very mild given to me by a long time doctor friend/student and with mild sleeping tablets they made life bearable. |

![]() Anyway how can people so easily give up their friends. If your even considering ditching them then they probably arent people you are friends with in the first place. Modo - have you seen my heman method of getting ripped? Cause i have a carebear version for getting not depressed. When i get more time ill post it on the venting thread.

i am genuinly depressed been on anti depressants since last yr in august. i was seeing a councilor, was making good progress, then it all ended, he got ill... and since i cannot get into another one though i have tried many. everything i had been trying to fix went back to how it was...
mood swings, anger, upset, hoplesness, sorrow, feeling alone. all the emotions i can go through in not even the space of 3 hours. when i am happy and around people i am fine, but once i start feeling angered or pressure i crumble. |

I've suffered from depression. I have always been an over-achieving stress head, which def used to feed it! It started with just loosing interest in things, then I couldn't be bothered with my friends and after a while just didn't feel like doing much at all. I wasn't angry or sad, just a sense of nothingness. Exercise played a big part of getting out of my depressed state and reckon it forms a big part of the reason why I haven't fallen back into the trap of those negative thought patterns.
Agree with your cortisol theory too. It's why over exercising can cause muscle loss and weight gain. Will your doc check your cortisol levels? |

Ive had severe depression for over 10 years. When i restrated training again back in 2007 it saved me. Its had a profound effect on me. Depression starts with an event and then manifests itself until a stressor is activated or a series of events. From then on until diagnosed and medicated its a down hill run. To recover from depression you must fully understand depression and what triggered your depression. Working with a Pyscologist defiantely helps. Todays fast paced lifestyle doesnt help either.
