lol @ thread.

Way to not give a shit about other people by wanting to deny the government the funding required to run public facilities and services.

If I were king of Oztralya I'd make you pay more taxes now.

No, it's not that we don't care about other people. But I think ceffo is pointing out that so much tax allows for freeriders and budget blowing, and who cops it all? tax payers.

A tax system like ours is great in terms for public facilities but then it allows for free riders who exploit the system, thus causing more tax to pay for their expenses.

Oh and not to mention, it also allows for government to blow money. I'm in IT, and there's a government system called Oracle shared services. The damn thing has costed the nation over 2.8 billion and the damn thing still doesn't work. The original budget was half a billion

Ceffo, I too get angry looking at how much tax I paid over the year. It is frustrating that the government just pisses away billions of our tax dollars.
If they didn't spend it on rubbish like the NBN, and Sydney Metro or whatever the hell it is, then I'd be a bit more comfortable giving them MY money.

The other frustrating thing is that, as your pay increases, your lifestyle becomes more expensive (well mine does anyway). I actually feel like I'm worse off than friends of mine who earn less than me.
They will be happy living in a crummy suburb, in a crummy house, driving a sh*tbox of a car - but I want to live in a good area, in a nice place, and drive a nice car.

I biggest thing I hate about taxes and other government fees is that they are hidden and complicated deliberatly to confuse the 'common man'.

If I ever came into power I would create policy to remove all hidden taxes and other revenue raiseing activities by the government that were not 100% transpanrent and easily understandable.

Id do something like:

30% GST no gst excluded anything
5% income tax
10% inport tax
5% export tax

if that didnt generate enough revenue to pay for all government services and expand with projects id raise the GST accordingly or lower it depend on what is required.

I know thats worded poorly but im distracted. You get the gist.

Your problem is easily-solved by giving lots of your income away to charity, this then puts your remaining income at a level with your friends earning less.

Alternately, you could quit your high-paying job and seek a lower-paying one.

Go ahead, nobody will complain.

Kindred, tax systems always start off simple, but then someone says "what about small business?" or "what about families?" or "what about this guy they paid in BMWs and foreign travel, shouldn't that be taxed, too?" and it quickly becomes more complicated...

Government shoulda used da $money$ to tell me to stop using internet slang rather than wasting it on superfluous projects.

Even countries that used to run a 50% tax rate and had AMAZING facilities and services to show for it (free top-level health care and education etc) have been changing their systems over the last few years.

It's a caaaarrrrrrraaaaaaazzzzzzzzzzzzeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyy yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy world we live in!!

socialism is real simple. "from each according to their ability, to each according to their need." socialism dictates that you have a moral obligation to provide for your fellow man and so the government takes money from you by force to satisfy that obligation. if you question it then you are obviously saying you dont care about anyone else and you are a selfish, disgusting little swine. what about basic human property rights? shuttup bourgeoisie criminal.
