The doc said that rest for a few months should fix it up , if he doesn't rest it they will have to plaster it up so that he can't use the leg
operation is a last resort

I'm not sure how many were bullshitting but I remember quite a few kids I went to school with had that. I had the bump and the pain but don't remember if I bothered going to the dr about it. We all played basketball in summer and most of the year at school so there was plenty of running and jumping.

I don't remember anyone sitting out because of it though, just a lot of sore knees and the coaches asking if we should be playing. Better to listen to the dr I guess rather than agrivate (man i spelled that 15 ways and the spell check gave me no love) the problem. It's a shame it rules out all the contact sports, they're the most fun.

This is interesting about the no sport rest idea. I was just reading about o-s in clinical sports medicine where it suggests that you should self limit to what you would like and that rest has not been shown to increase healing time and in fact exercise is not detrimental besides tolerating the pain. Did you see a specialist or the local GP?

I got told by a Doc i had that when i was 14 or somewhere around that age. The Doc didnt mention anything about not playing sports, it eventually dissapeared anyway, didnt really pay that much notice to it.

Surgery !!! LoL, Doc is mad.

The GP sounds like he doesn't know much about the condition or has not read up on it in the last 10 years.
