Thanks, KA. Things are coming together though tempering the frustration from wanting to be further ahead than I am needs managing at times. It's humbling to remind myself I need to pay my dues in the time it takes and not the time I want.
I know what you mean about being the big fish (although I'm just a different fish and not a big one :-)); I was training yesterday and a man was doing MPs with 130kg of 5kg and 2.5kg weights on a small bar because I was using the only Olympic bar to bench press *laughs*. We were the only two in there. Thank you, Shrek. I can see this week my arse is slightly more streamlined! |

^ You're referring to my first paragraph and not the last?
![]() I am too self critical much of the time, but I'm learning slowly to lighten up on myself and let my inner judgement tell me what's right for me and what isn't. I'm much nicer inside when I trust myself. |

No change from the previous week's weigh-in last Saturday. I'm not worried as I retain fluid in the heat and I feel like an oompa loompa so I'll weigh again next Saturday. I'm over summer and it can bugger off.
I start at the new gym on Wednesday night so this week will be a mess but I'm looking forward to settling in and finding my way around. I had my toe joint x-rayed today and admired the slides afterwards ... the miracle of the foot that it can contain so many long and delicate-looking bones, and small and knobbly bones, yet support and transport the rest of the body with such reliable service. Then I saw the white blobby thing that looks like it's growing from the ball joint and pushing into the second toe. It would be fascinating if it weren't my foot! Off to see the surgeon on 12 Mar to learn what the hell is in there. The timing is shocking as I have no sick leave and only four months ago at the old job I had more than three months' worth. Oh well, there's never a good time for bad luck. |

Feb summary:
Lost only 1.5kg for the month but all lifts went up and feeling more muscle in good places like quads, glutes and back. There is a particularly pleasing amount of new mass in my hamstrings -- I try not to grab and feel them when others are around though. The past week has been horrendous at work and interrupted with appointments and finding my way around the new gym, so I've written it off as a light week. The new block of hard work starts tomorrow night. |

March 2010
Settled into the new gym and all is well. Lost close to a kilo this fortnight after starting a four-week block of heavy work -- had to add an additional evening snack as my body was screaming for more food but seem to have the balance re-adjusted nicely for now. Less than half a kilo from first goal and will be good mentally to knock it off this week. All lifts are increasing at a steady rate (hurrah!) but squat is still quite shithouse, however, nothing but time, work, food and sleep will rectify that -- my arse and legs are adding some new hardness and that's the main thing. Am starting to experiment with 10 minutes of post-training HIIT on lifting days. Got to six on the bike after a hard session the other night and was close to hurling -- kind of fun in a painful way. On a cardio night I did 10 blocks of 10-second intervals on the bike, with a five-minute light recovery spin and cranked out another 10 blocks and I really knew I was alive . Might try for 30 this week just to see what happens.
