Question Help out 7L

Hey guys, first post here, newbie here and also to the workout scene.

Im looking for a a lot of guidance from your guys and am going to be firing a lot of questions your way.
First off a bit of background info.

Im 20yrs, Male, 175cm, 65kg.

Work casually in a factory.

I have always been pretty sporty but everything I have done has been aerobically based and hasn't built a lot of muscle. (Running, Soccer, Cricket, back in the day) These days I mainly ride Motocross and Snowboard but pretty rarely these days.

I've always been a pretty average to small guy and think it's time I beef myself up a little, Thinking a goal may be to reach 75kg.

I completed a physical movement course in High School so I have a basic understanding of aerobic, anaerobic, iso metric, iso tonic, iso kinetic, and afew things like that but that's basically about it with me.

I've never been to a gym before so I don't have a great understanding of the equipment or necessary workout's e.t.c

Im currently at UNI full time so I don't have a lot of money or spare time which is what has stopped me getting into it before.

Basically i'm looking at buying a multi station gym set to have at home, one such as this: Sorry wouldn't let me post a link, you know those multi stations they flog off on ebay? Something like that.

How do those ones off eBay hold up? Im looking at second hand ones on there first but If I can't find one i may look at the cheap import option.

WHAT I WANT TO ACHIEVE:
Basically looking to bulk myself up a bit and keep myself fit/strong and healthy. I think I have an alright base to work off but one thing that has always let me down are my arms. I've always had an alright core/legs because of the activities I complete but my arms need the bulkage.

I will have enough time to fit in 4-5 30min workouts a week but again I have no idea about an acceptable workout plan in relation to recovery times e.t.c. THATS WHERE I NEED YOUR HELP.

DIET:

I consider myself a moderately healthy eater. Because i'm at UNI 3-4 days a week my lunch usually consists of 2 sand witches (usually ham+tomato+cheese+lettuce+mayo) if not just a spread. And 1 or two pieces of fruit. Than of course because i'm not training I might crab a packet of chips or coke in there. At home I usually have a pretty good prepared meal, meat/veg. Not a lot of takeaway.

NUTRIENTS:

Never taken any before and am pretty lost without the options.

What is the best option i relation to nutrients for someone hoping to achieve results like me?

Why not the gym?
Gym Memberships cost money that I just don't have to be forking out every week. Also with gyms you need that extra motivation and time to get out there. I know for me that If I have the multi-station at home I will be able to bust out short workouts no problem, I can just head down there when i'm bored. Also I think that i'm so far behind the 8 ball that I would just look silly at the gym haha.

PLEASE, any advice you can give me will help a lot. I feel I need all the answers before I will have the motivation to get it done. If you can go through and answer or the vague (sorry haha) questions I asked that would be great, or anything else you think I should know.

Thanks in Advance.

I would post more but im rooted and going to sleep.

Do not buy a multi gym pos. Biggest waste of cash ever.

Why's that?

Even though I say I want to work on my arms I don't mean only them, i'm looking for someone to set me up a full body routine, my arms just need to play a little catch up. Also I only have about $500 to spend.

Agreed. Or buy in installments, starting with the most important sorta stuff. I guess you can do most things with a bar and bench really.

cable type machine things are not the best investment, like said above, olympic bar for sure and lots of plates :P add a bench in, and thats what I started on. Then I brought some DB's, Then combine with doing chin ups in shed/where-ever.

Let me know what you think

Most things with a bar and bench, what about legs?

From what I learnt aren't iso kinetic (machine) exercises alot better because you have resistance on the full movement. Works your whole muscle better.

Still not an option sorry guys, Im gonna have to but the multi statins or nothing. Lke said above Im a UNI student working one shift a week, I have no money anywhere else to pull from.

Also I would be worried about the safety of a bar, Im going to be working alone, machines your always safe.

Heres a list of what I could do with the station

Low Pulley Rope, Knee Raisers, Bicep and Preacher Curls, reverse preachers, wrist and leg curls, leg extensions, crunchers, straight arm pullovers, lat pull front, butterfly's, vertical bench press.

I think from where im at it's a MUCH better option, isotonic bench set can come later.

If you buy a multi stage gym machine it will be a waste of $500. They do nothing.

You would be better of doing pushups and chinups every day and spending the $500 on kettle bells. Can train everything with kettle bells.

You sound like you have made your mind up though. Maybe you can find a way to squat the machine or something, maybe make up some straps to fit on it.

Goodluck.

Whats so bad about them, I don't understand? They have the weight, and they allow you to pull that weight through the whole movement. Am I missing something? or is it just the general consensus that has spread through the forum?

Where do you live? I'm looking at getting rid of some gear that will be much more beneficial.
