Nice workout mate. The deadlift is possibly the hardest official powrlifting lift, as it involves starting from a complete stand still & having to pick the weight up wihle not falling over. Feet width & direction is pretty personal hey

![]() I am still not fond of the bench. It took me twenty minutes because that other Cert III student was talking to me again. Rows were a bit rough, I don't think I'll increase the weight until I can get better form on them. An obvious stall on the press, I don't expect this one to race up. Still swallowing puke on the deadlifts, they take a lot out of me, but are pretty satisfying. Now that I've passed 100kg I'm finding the bar and plates don't go so neatly onto the floor, I'd be breaking floorboards I think ![]() I should note that this is the first workout where the total exceeded what I started with before this programme. My previous best 5RMs added up to 380kg, but that was only 1 set each. I deloaded to 330kg to manage 3x5 of each, and am now up to 3x5 in them totalling 387.5kg. A slow start, I have to up the pace a bit if I want to hit half a tonne by Nov 20, but still - I'm lifting more than I was, so that's good.

![]() with respect to people talking while you are trying to train, have you tried just politely saying that you would like to finish your set? this is what i do. unfortunately i train in a gym where i know a lot of people, but i rarely if ever talk to people while training. |

Only got four or five hours' sleep last night. My mind was racing - not with any particular worries or stresses, I just couldn't empty it the way I usually can. This poor sleep probably explains...
Yesterday I hadn't done any cardio as I usually do, maybe I just had excess energy? So tonight I should sleep well, some cardio tomorrow, then on Sunday it can be 3x5 all round and I can move up on all five exercises next week!

Thanks.
I met with my best man and groomsmen for some drinks last night, one of them reckons that if you're kept awake, there's always some real cause, even if you're not really conscious of it, and you have to think about it for a bit to figure it out. I'm not so sure. I have a few things on my mind, of course. PT school, wedding coming up, then more PT school, then honeymoon, and at some point finding the PT job - things are happening in my life. But these are good things, and there's always something happening in an adult's life. So there are lots of things on my mind, but I wouldn't call it "stress", as I am not really a guy who gets stressed, usually. In the busy restaurant kitchen, I'm not the chef flipping out and screaming at people. I think it was just not enough physical activity during the day. I almost always sleep well after a gym workout or run, or day of walking/cycling around to do stuff. But I had a day off with no heavy physical activity, so I had energy left over, and this buzzing energy kept me awake, I reckon

I've been training hard - perhaps too hard.
I got my 3x5 lifts up to, Squat, 100kg Bench, 82.5kg Row, 85kg OHP, 55kg Deadlift, 130kg with the squat, OHP and deadlift being reached just last week. However, last Monday I felt a painful twinge in my erector spinae in the thoracic spine as I deadlifted 122.5kg for my last set of 5 - it was an extra workout at school, I only deadlifted and pressed, and didn't deadlift on my regular Wednesday workout. On the Wednesday I got the twinge as I squatted 97.5kg in my last set. On Friday all seemed fine as I deadlifted 125kg and squatted 100kg, only made 5,4 and 4 but nothing painful. But on Sunday I got the twinge again in squats, so when it hit hard on the deadlifts in the first set, on the first rep of the second set I stopped. And the past few days I've been waking up with a painful back, same area with the twinge. So I'll be to the physio as soon as I can, and no heavy lifting for me until then. I'll either rest completely or at least deload. |
