I've seen, landed and been hit by plenty of kicks to the head. Theoretically it's easy to move out the way but in the chaos of a fight theory goes out the window. Usually four possible reasons for a successful landing of any hit to any part of the body:
  1. The attack is too fast to dodge or block - some people can kick extremely fast.
  2. You are distracted - could be anything, being hit is very distracting.
  3. Can't see the attack.
  4. Can't physically move to dodge or block - you could be injured, too tired, or being held by something or someone.
Question josh - is Wing Tsun the same thing as Wing Chun?

BTW great discussion guys.

What style would you recommend

The art of communication; master that style and you won't have to worry about the rest!

It worked for me on Tuesday against an ultra aggressive and volatile person high on some form of speed.

My motto: Defuse rather than enrage and gain control of the wildest of fires!

If the above won't do for you kindred, then you'd find my style residing where there is no style. I'm not much of a conformist to any one particular style but would rather use the best for me from each system to suite my physique and age limitation and strength.

Let me give you an example here with ninjutsu: I’ll take one element of this style and one element only; throwing sand in my opponent's eyes then following that with what is most appropriate to gain full control of the situation at the time. Sorry Kindred, I just can’t think “clean” when I’m faced with a “dirty” offender. However, communication reigns supreme as a first option, (most of the times).

I won’t comment on known martial art styles since I don’t believe there’s The one and only mighty style above all else. Each style has something to offer and it’s up to you to find what suites you best from each one.
