I wouldn't join. Most martial arts places are happy with pay as you go, a contract makes them sound more interested in your money than you. ditch them.
whatever you do Kindred, you need to work that out with the girl first. 'cause if you're committed to the girl at all, then essentially you're playing dad to the kid, and so you need the girl to be okay with you acting with respect and authority. that's my take.

Marrickville is a top location - fairly central to the city, but not a mega traffic jam, and v.good rail connections, I think stick with that. plus it's close to me (inner west).

I train at an anytime fitness 24/7 like ceffo. they're all over the place these days. sure you could find one on the north side. there's one at st. leonards; i go to one in lane cove.
7am in my gym, I saw a guy wearing a belt doing machine bicep curls. Not sure how the belt was helping with that. really, a belt for bicep curls, on a machine?
I think you'll find weights @ lunch then mma in arvo fine. The type of training is different enough in terms of the strength and demands that mma requires that doing weights earlier in the day shouldn't be much of an issue. I used to do weight training followed by krav maga sessions in a similar...
