Are squats necessary for a bodybuilding competitor?

I don't think BBers are more special. The point is I don't think PLers are more special. That's the irony. I think they are more or less equal. But bodybuilding comp prep is definitely a bitch when it comes to diet, having to get to 3-5% bodyfat, dehydrate, basically put yourself in an...

Are squats necessary for a bodybuilding competitor?

I agree with you in principle, but there is still one point in your post that is a subtle dig at BBers. And this is what Neddy has mentioned. It's how you define BBers. To you, BBers are only BBers if they step on stage and compete. Yet any person who enters a PLing comp is a 'competitive...

Are squats necessary for a bodybuilding competitor?

Yup. The irony of course is that PLs view BBers as vain for trying to build a muscular body (that they believe contains no functional strength), whereas PLs try to lift ridiculous weights essentially for the same reason (vanity). And of course, being able to deadlift 300kgs or squat 200kgs is...

Are Deadlifts necessary for a Bodybuilding routine?

Yup I know you are mate. Personally I can't imagine ever not doing them. Bazz, do you think there is a big difference between 250 and 300? Reason I ask, is that I would still say that I have a reasonably poorly developed back (not lumpy, virtually non-existant traps).

    Matt Wolfe Transformation

This. Obviously a good transformation, but there is something not quite right about it all. Also, is it just me, or does it look like he has a touch of gyno around the nips?? He desperately needs a chest also (somewhat ironically in light of the gyno..)

Are Deadlifts necessary for a Bodybuilding routine?

I don't think 3 people makes a correlation. Especially if PEDs are concerned. No disrespect to anyone of course. I think what this boils down to most is genetics and what you respond to. My upper back doesn't really respond very much to anything, be it rows or deads. Strictly speaking, I...

Are Deadlifts necessary for a Bodybuilding routine?

Could that have anything to do with the use of PEDs perhaps?

Are Deadlifts necessary for a Bodybuilding routine?

And there is a massive, massive difference between doing 150kgs for reps and 250kgs for reps. I can only think of 2 people that could do 250 for reps - Sticky and Bazza (1RM of 270, so I assume he can rep out some at 250). I'm aiming for a 1RM of 250kgs in about 5 weeks, but it'd be at least...

Are Deadlifts necessary for a Bodybuilding routine?

We actually have one of those at my gym, but it just didn't seem to work for t-bar rows. Forces you to stand nearly upright, otherwise the 20kg plates smash into your chest. We had a classic t-bar row at my old gym, was perfect. You could load up as much weight as you liked. I might give...

Seriously? Either her neighbour is a serious bitch, or there is more to the story.

Are Deadlifts necessary for a Bodybuilding routine?

Yeah, I kinda agree with you. My deadlift is approaching 6 plates and my back doesn't seem to have appreciably thickened from it. However, unlike you, my back feels fine when deadlifting. Feels great actually. I would love to do T-bar rows or something similar, but unfortunately, my gym...

    Living off 1200 calories a day ?

Definitely not. It is better to exercise more than eat less (if fat loss is what you are going for).

Are Deadlifts necessary for a Bodybuilding routine?

Agreed. I've always had a fat-fuck waist (wide as). I'd look about 10x more impressive if I had a 32" waist. So realistically, I probably shouldn't do heavy deads as they tend to thicken up my obliques and lower back even more. But some people who have naturally tiny waists are not going...
