the what u saw at the gym TODAY thread

Guy doing sit ups while using his mobile phone.. I saw him a few other times and he was just glued to his phone. I found the sit ups while using a phone to be more interesting than say doing it while on the leg press because he had to the phone and his body in sync so he could keep reading.

    The Truth About Bodybuilding Genetics

Whereas, I found the highlight of this article to be 'Some people respond best to variety, some to volume, some to intensity, some to frequency, and some to density. You have to discover the best stimulis for your body, which evolves over time'. I think if you test each one out (in conjunction...

quick & easy meals/snacks for bulking?

This. While it's a little scary slowing down your metabolism, I've done this recently and I'm starting to creep into the 90+ kg range (unfortunately at a slightly higher BF than I would have liked by this stage) without having to overeat significantly. I'm getting to the point of wanting to...

    Other sports?

Soccer and touch football for me. Sometimes up to 4 times a week, but now touch is over so it's just soccer training once and a game. Gym has done wonders for my soccer.

    Posterior Deltoids

I think this plus the wide grip chest supported rows will probably do the trick (thanks Goosey). Cheers.

New workout routine for building mass, please help!

Welcome. The routine seems fine to me, 5 day a week splits work well. Just make sure you do it consistently and progress consistently. In saying that, if I was going to do a 5 day/week split, I would read through this thread...

    Posterior Deltoids

I tried for a long time to do bent over DB raises, but I just can't enjoy them. I tend to do face pulls or standing rear cable flyes. I was enjoying doing a tweaked version of DB rows for a while there so that it hit the rear delts. I suspect my answer is single joint..

how strong is you front squat ?

I don't have the technique/flexibility in the wrists to really test myself on front squats, so I tend to just chase the pump in the quads with them rather than go heavy like with back squats.. whenever the weight starts getting up, it starts slipping from my shoulders due to sweat.

What hammy work do you do?

I'm still not at that stage and it's been a fair while. Admittedly, I don't do it every week consistently..

    Workout Critique Please

Agreed - I tend to stick with hammer strength rows to avoid lower back fatigue. And yeah I'd be pretty happy with just doing chins, squats, deads (and dips).

the what u saw at the gym TODAY thread

The trainer for Brad Cooper, Ashley Conrad I believe, has an 8 exercise ab program which includes db flyes on a bosu ball. I think they are performed in the crunch position maybe? Perhaps the exercise was inspired! I saw some strange things at gym last night, one of which was a guy performing...

    Workout Critique Please

Questions for you Silverback: Re B: There are no rows listed - should the chins on day B be rows? Dips - I know you don't believe in chest or tricep dips, but are you expecting these to be performed upright with arms close? Re C: Bench - flat again?

What hammy work do you do?

It's frustrating how it just doesn't feel right.. I always see photos from gyms in america with standing leg curl machines. For a long time, lying leg curls didn't feel right (and seated curls definitely aren't right) but I'm finally getting the hang of it after years of using it :p Otherwise...

What hammy work do you do?

I find my hammies are pretty overactive, particularly when squatting, so I stick to some RDLs, curls, lunges.. but I try not go overboard.

Do You Force Yourself To Eat?

I can always eat more, but that takes away from actually doing things in life.. which is probably why on the weekend I usually end up having two mammoth shakes with my meals so I don't have to spend so much time eating.

    45 degree sled leg press

This pretty much sums up my experience. Also, I heard that single leg press was a weapon of choice for the Australian cycling team at one point.. it was in an article about leg press versus squat. I tend to use hack squat/leg press/leg extensions/lunges/deads as my main leg work. Other than...

How Did Your Last Workout Go?

Roadtested Mike O'Hearn's power bodybuilding workouts on Saturday (Chest) and Sunday (Back). Basically heavy movement first (e.g. deadlifts 5 sets of 4 reps or 7 sets of 2 reps) followed by 2 more heavy movements but at a higher rep range (e.g. one db rows 5x10 reps and pulldowns 3x8 reps). It...
