    The PB Thread

This week's training PBs@80kg: Olympic squat - 140kg Front olympic squat - 112.5kg Power clean - 85kg Bench press - 102.5kg ohp - 62.5kg Seems I'm constantly settings PBs and leaving a bit in the tank

    "speed training"

I will comment now for me a ~90-95% 1RM usually moves quite fast, whereas before programming in speed work I would be starting to grind above say ~85%. And be able to cope with far less volume @ higher %. But yes of course technique improvement could account for both of these. I treat volume...

    "speed training"

This kind of attitude is why so many people in the world are so stupid and poorly-informed. Some of us enjoy the pursuit of education, information and discussion. I don't see the problem?

    "speed training"

power = time (speed) x force (strength). In the same way in automotive/mechanical engineering power = rpm x torque For a lifter that is not highly skilled, speed work allows development of technique via reps and volume without the stress of maximal work. This effect alone probably makes it...

    Impressive lightweights

Not discounting these guys in any way, but short = better leverages for a given bodyweight, so they tend to to have superior strength/bodyweight, everything else being equal. I think height can be used as another factor in quantifying the scale of relative strength.

    Need a new program

Been doing my own adaptation of Bulgarian Method for 3 weeks now without a single day off. Too early to tell results but I'm enjoying it. T NATION | Maxing on Squats and Deadlifts Every Day Triples, doubles and singles for compound lifts. olympic squat, front squat, power clean, DL (just speed...

    Deload

I agree. I'd like to add I found going too hard on accessories is what prevented me from training the main lifts more frequently. E.g banging out bulk volume of reverse hypers or abs would leave those areas sore for days. Right now I don't do/very little any accessory work but can do the main...

    Deload

IMO a full de-load week every 4 is just wasting valuable time, and if anything allows you to become 'de-conditioned'. Unless maybe if you are an elite highly skilled and efficient lifter. I recently came off 531 after a 16 week block. On de-load week I did 'mini-deloads' where for one or two...

    Bulgarian method article on t-nation

Agree with that to a large extent, but I think there is certainly an application for singles in developing strength For example, John Broz's version of Bulgarian recomends working up in doubles to ~80% for back squat, then several singles working up to a max. Seems to me, the doubles are...

    The PB Thread

Recent training PBs@79-80kg: Olympic squat - 137.5kg (I've done 140 before, but it was a bit ugly) Paused Olympic squat - 115kg Front Squat - 100 x 3 Power clean - 82.5kg, 75 x 3 Doing Bulgarian Method, so everything done in a fatigued state with a bit left in the tank. 2 weeks of consecutive...

    Thoughts on wraps/grips??

+1 harden up/keep it simple, your grip will develop in time if you don't use straps. This is certainly my personal experience. For quite a while grip was the definite limiting factor - with hindsight, probably not a bad thing, as it stopped me from grinding out maxes/reps all the time and got in...

    Bulgarian method article on t-nation

Some wierd shit does happen, I've had a couple of days where I had very little/no appetite, felt brain-dead, irritable and trouble falling asleep despite feeling utterly exhausted. But I think it's just adapting to it, I experienced this last time I started a block of it as well. Honestly...

    Bulgarian method article on t-nation

Well, today was my 13th consecutive day lifting. So far so good, I feel like technique is getting consistent and everything is moving tight and fast. Been working in more volume and higher %, but yet to exceed 90% on singles, which are about to start happening. Generally I start with triples...

    Power Cleans

Perhaps I didn't express myself correctly. My question is, given my other lifts, roughly what sort of poundage for power clean should I be aiming for/expecting with acquisition of competent technique? I'm definitely not muscling/rowing the weight up, so it seems progress is being made. By...

    Power Cleans

Fadi, What sort of figure for power clean should I be aiming for to demonstrate reasonable technique/balance? I just did 82.5kg pretty comfortably, but my technique probably sucks as I just started doing oly stuff casually for fun pretty recently - recent training figures: 79-80kg@180cm 180 x...

Pretty much. Prefer oly squat over low-bar for now. Will probably have to switch at some point. Not convinced in lots of DLing, John Broz reckons speed pulls twice a week max and only exceeding 80% on the rare occasion testing max. Historically, DL is my best lift but hardest to recover...
