Ofcourse, i'm secure in myself to help out a brother in need, even one who prefers to squat naked. Do you insist on your spotters being naked too?

    Periodisation?

I have been trying to get my head around periodisation and planning my own program for longer periods. I've had a go at forumulating a program with the goal of increasing strength, power and size. I want to do a planned program for a month and then re measure my 1RMs. So i read some articles...

    workout belts

there's a mental image i could do without... When I first learnt to do squats the wrong way i used to get a very sore lower back doing them. I didn't have anyone to comment on my form and i didn't bother trying to research it. When i used a belt i didn't get a sore back. Back then I thought...

    probs with bent rows!!

Can't speak for any one else but the bar on the floor rubbish from me came from Rippetoes' Starting Strength (Aasgard 2006) pg. 263. I had never heard of them being started on floor until i read his book. He seems to know his way around all the other lifts so I trusted him on this lift too...

    probs with bent rows!!

i used to do them bent over, rep starting with bar hanging down in hands, up to stomach, repeat. legs slightly bent. Now i do them as prescribed in SS. Every rep begins from a dead stop, bar on floor like a deadlift. rep begins with a small hip/glute contraction, bar comes up and hits stomach...

    Breathing during lifting

thats not right, you need to hold your breath on the major lifts, deads, squats, bench, press etc in particular. its prob not necessary dong cable curls tho. holding your breath supports your spine and keeps it in allignment, and prevents more problems with correct technique than the miniscule...

    Breathing during lifting

try taking 5 full deep breaths before the set to oxyginate ur blood, then take 1 or 2 deep breaths in between reps. that should work for all squat sets involving between 1 - 10 reps. much more than that and ur approaching breathing squat territory which can involve alot more breaths. a normal...

Is it possible to go to deep with squats?

According to the litrature I've read squatting deep (hip joint below knee cap) is the safest way to squat. Quarter squats and half squats involve alot more shearing forces on the knees. I go down as far as i can without lower back rounding. i reach a point where butt tucks in under me so i stop...

    Are YOU Man enough?!

Thanks Fadi, I've done 1RM for squats, deadlifts and bench. I would have had at least 3 mins rest when recording those. Haven't done power clean as I haven't had proper instruction, just from text books. When practicing it i feel like i do it properly about a third of the time, coordinating...

    Are YOU Man enough?!

I think you've given them enough time Fadi :) But if I'm not mistaken, the point of your post is to say that bodybuilder's, or at least novice bodybuilders and lifters, aren't using periodisation or cycling training and probably haven't heard of it. anways, I'm keen for more...when you're...

    breathing while lifting

I have started doing this and agree it helps. I used to do the breath out with exertion, in on the lowering phase. Holding the breath is more natural for your body. You do it instinctively. See what happens next time you try to move your piano.

    What's you choice of cardio?

Just recently started doing cardio again with the missus. We set up a boxing/crosstraining circuit at home. We clear out the loungeroom and put down a barbell and a set of dummbells, just light weight. do squats/rows/lunges/presses/power cleans/pushups 30 secs on 30 secs off, then do shadow...
