    Were you born slow or has smoking salvia concentrate damaged your brain? The participants engaged in resistance/strength training for at least 6 months prior - cycling was additional to the strength training. Perhaps it help if I typed it out in braille? I didn't realise this thread only...

    The study compares 90% 1rm to failure (around 3 reps) vs 30% 1rm (matched volume) vs 30% 1rm to failure (around 25 reps). In a nutshell, lighter weights at higher reps are more effective in inducing acute muscle anabolism than the heavier weights at lower reps.

    I'd be interested to know where they got the data to compile the table. I've not seen any studies concluding that the 20 rep range has the largest effect on sarcoplasmic hypertrophy.

    Ah, I should have put that in quotes - i've heard folk say that "anything over 15 reps is useless". This table says otherwise: Best rep range for strength = 1-3 Best rep range for power = around 5 Best rep range for hypertrophy (sarcoplasmic) = around 20

    Ok I've taken some measurements and will add in the extra sets and exercises. I'll see where i'm at in 6 weeks. If no joy I'll give the arms only day a try.

    I eat like a pig compared to you guys - Indian curries, thai, pizza, oporto, lasagne, steak sangas etc not many veggies and lots of fat. Hate sweet potatoes, give me a deep fried chip any day. Do like to guzzle on extra virgin olive oil though. yum. Only supplement I take now is multi vitamins...

    Define "hits each bodypart"? Currently doing 8-12 reps x 6 work sets each of overhead press, bench, and rows a week all of which hit the shoulders to some extent, some more than others of course. Would you say that's a total of 18 sets "hitting" the shoulders weekly?
