the what u saw at the gym TODAY thread

Saw some dudes ruining a bar. Doing rack pulls with ~150 kg and dropping the bar from lockout to the pins on every rep. Such is life training at fitness first. At least they were using one of the shit bars.

    Lumbar test

The graphs are a bit too small for me to see in detail but I'm interested in this stuff too. Can you explain what we're looking at in a bit more detail? What are the latest graphs showing? What prompted you to start training at this place? Were you getting back pain? Was it general interest...

    [MEL] Olympic dumbbell handles

[MEL] Olympic dumbbell handles - PRICE DROP - $40 I got these about 4 years ago and they sat in my garage doing nothing. Used them a little for rehab exercises but I never got around to stocking up on olympic plates to use with these. Location: Melbourne - inner suburbs Description: Olympic...

    Tweaking this package deal

I assume it'd be more expensive. If that's an issue I'd get 4x20s, which should drop the price, and get extra 20s as money permits. If I were buying things again I'd definitely get a rack with plate holders. Just makes things so much more convenient. When you're thinking about how much space...

    Tweaking this package deal

If you're ditching the pulley then it'd be better to change the allocation of plates. Better off having 2 of each smaller plate and then just adding 20s as you go. Unless you're into drop sets. The way I'd do it would be: 6x 20 2x 10 2x 5 2x 2.5 2x 1.25 2x .50 (if they have them) Total: 158.5 kg

Germany VS Great Britain - Strongman Battle Of The Giants (eng sub)

Hey Fadi, I'll offer some explanation. The use of thick bars has ties back into the history of strongman. There are a few classic implements that have been lifted over the years and considered challenge items: the Inch dumbbell (2.38" handle, 172 lbs), the Millenium dumbbell (2 & 3/8" handle...

    Neck work

I used to do neck work years ago when I was playing more sport. Flexion: lying on a bench face up, head off the end of the bench. Small plate and a folded towel on the forehead. Extension: I bought a head strap and used a loading pin for this. The ironmind head strap is very comfortable...

    Why am I piss weak?

I've mentioned this on the board before and a few people had never heard of it, but 300/400/500 has been thrown around for a long time as goals. 300 bench, 400 squat, 500 deadlift. Since it's a ballpark figure anyway, 3 plates 4 plates 5 plates like TTT suggested seems about right. Belt and...

    Savickas tire deadlift WR

Savickas pulls ~523 kg on the tire deadlift, on his way to winning the Arnold Strongman Classic 2014.

    Derek Kendall 500lbs Military Press

Yeah I always thought Redding's lift was a cleaner, more impressive lift, despite being 2 kg less. The double lay back was a lot less exaggerated in Redding's lift. I guess some people don't care about that and just worry about the white lights, and that's fair enough. It's pretty much double...

You might have seen it already, but here's the video of Serge Redding pressing exactly that amount: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nJrYPVJ88M

What is the most common mistake you see people do while working out?

Haven't seen much (any?) data linking injuries to certain ways of lifting so it's a bit hard to comment. Almost everyone drops their dumbbells on the floor after they bench though, which can bend the heavy dumbbells. There's an easy way to stand up with them at the end of a set without dumping...

Quest Bars!! The Ultimate Brotein Bar

So much hype, I'm gonna jump in too and get a few boxes. I saw someone mention an extra 5% off and someone said free fatburner. Do you have to do anything special to get that or just put an order through iherb with Caino's discount code?

Have you ever made up your own exercise?

Never had a name but I used to do a calf exercise I've never seen anyone else do. Basically a farmers walk with a calf raise each step. Worked well at the time when I could do them outside where there were hills and uneven terrain. Haven't done them in a long time because I train in a...

If you could go back in time

I'd have lots of things to say to myself. Many of them also apply outside the weights room. - Don't try to rush things. - Don't train too hard. It's important to learn when to back off. - Consistency is important. It's not about training hard for a short burst and then you're done, you need to...
