Since this a thread on squatting here is a question. I am 38 and squatting hurts my hips. A lot. A f'n lot. After a day of squatting I move like an old man. I have tried, narrow, wide, high, low. They all hurt my hips. I have been doing foam rolling and mobility drills for 6 months and...

the what u saw at the gym TODAY thread

Lol was working out at a place on holidays. Pretty much the opposite of that. Had tons of homemade equipment. 4 lifting platforms with squat racks. One with stands for olympic lifting. 2 power racks. Several fat bars. Not a mirror in the place. Was a strength trainers paradise. Only...

    A shoulder builder

Used this for squats when I was travelling this last month. Started at 3x3 and worked up to 6x3. Had a 2 week break with no gym access. But found it worked great for what I was after. Was getting into the gym once every 4 days so would squat, db bench and row. Great for travelling or when...

    The over 30's

Yeah I did kung fu in my 20's and loved it. Had to move to a very isolated location for work and give it up. Was thinking about doing one again', but need to find something suitable.

    The over 30's

Go slow. Once you get out of your beginner phase, concentrate on 2.5-5kg increases each month. This sort of progression keeps you motivated and allows the support muscle groups to grow at the same time. Never stop. Roll back to 2 days per week if your busy. But don't stop lifting ever...

    Rows comparison?

Meh don't be a pussy You can go wider if you have any shoulder pain or pull them only up to the top of your chest. Or leave them out all together... I would never keep doing an exercise that caused me pain. I'd just find another. Shouldn't be an issue for a young rugby player, just a old farts.

Work out frequency - what dictates it?

Doubt too many here are going to the olympics so your point is kinda moot.

    Rows comparison?

I think the variations done with a barbell are movements where you focus on the movement, doing heavy weight with good form, and just get the work done. Anything where you are usi g a machine or a supported chest you should be concentrating on working the muscle. For football - in order of...

Work out frequency - what dictates it?

I think you know the answer to your own question. The stronger you are the more weight you move. The more work you end up doing in a workout. The longer the break. Age plays a factor too. Training squats 3x per week left my joints in bad shape even though only one session was heavy. I had...

    flatter tummy

When in doubt squat. When really unsure, squat more. It forces your whole body to work hard and changes body composition like nothing else. Working your core hard is a bonus.

any one try this 12 week challenge

Front squats, high bar squats and zercher squats would be closer to hack squats. Looks like a gimmick to sell you supplements.

    Starting out

+1 I am 38. 531 would have made me a monster today, had it existed when I was 18. In hindsight, I would have focused primarily on squatting, squatting and squatting. I avoided it because I had bad form. Had I of known to sit back, it would have made a huge difference. But the writings of...

    Best power rack? OPINIONS PLEASE

Wish they had a good half rack here. The ones available do not have very good spotters arms or high tolerances. In the USA there are dozens under a grand. Elite FTS
