    Iron edge rep challenge results

I don't know... how about one set of rules for lifters, regardless of gender? We have gender equality in this country, don't we? Take marathon runners. We don't get the females to run 28km and calling it a marathon, right? We get them to run the full 42km just like the men.

    Iron edge rep challenge results

If the women were made to squat 1.5xBW +20kg, and do the rest the same as the men, do you think the women would still win? How can anyone say that the rules didn't determine the outcome with a straight face? The men would be lifting, at the same bodyweight, between 16-55kg more in each lift...

    Iron edge rep challenge results

How on earth does that prove women have better endurance? Take a man and a woman at the same weight. In the squat, the man has to do 0.5xBW + 10kg more than the woman does. That's a shitload of kg. I'm a light-middleweight at 83kg and at my BW that's a minimum 52kg difference. When you think...

To bounce the deadlift or not to, that is the question.

Not everyone deadlifts off concrete. Not terribly hard to bounce rubber or bumper plates off the deadlift platform or typical gym mat. Bouncing makes deadlift easier, LMD. You should also squat shallow. It makes the squat easier too, and you can use more weight! What's not to love?

    Stretch Shortening Cycle

jaydoubleyou, I didn't post it and I have very little idea of what the stretch shortening cycle is. :p From what I got from the coaches, I just need to get super tight and use the tightness to rebound out of whatever hole I got myself into. Any more advanced than that means a truckload of...

    Peaking

Precisely. There is no sport on the planet where the athletes are expected or trained to perform 100% "anytime, anyplace, anywhere" (damn catchy slogan though). It's neither humanly possible nor it is a good strategy. They should peak when it matters, to win games that matter. I do...

ANU gym comp (April 2, 2011)

Melb Uni has a similar setup: heavy weights room next to the main weight area of the larger gym. We're mostly powerlifters though, only a handful of Oly lifters and two are competing. There's only one federation in weightlifting so you don't need to look very hard.

ANU gym comp (April 2, 2011)

Almost missed this thread. Looks like a very good gym to train at! Good to see a good number of people taking up weightlifting. Is there a proper WL club inside that gym? I'm very surprised Laurence made that jerk after grinding out the front squat up. Most people would be depleted after that...

My forms in squat, deadlift and clean have improved heaps since I started training at a place with no mirror in front.

    Benedikt Magnusson 460kg RAW pull

Apparently it pre-activates something something... in your muscles, which make it easier. My coach gave me a long explanation the other night but I forgot the details of. :p Not stretch reflex. That's something else.

If it was offered to you....

Are you really really sure you're eating 4000 cals a day consistently? I don't think so. Besides, if 4000 cals don't work, eat 5000.

    Bro Science

I was carrying the 5kg Total Science bucket to work yesterday and was getting thumbs up from all the gym rats I walked pass near the gym area. They know quality when they see it. :D I'm trying it out for the first time tonight. Hope ASADA doesn't pay me a surprise visit... :p Real foods are...

    PA raw Nationals - Melbourne

In the first two rounds of squat for the 105kg and higher, there was no fail at all. Then strong_enough? failed his 3rd squat and it all went down hill from there, as the judges said. :p Maybe it's harder to bomb raw?

I don't. I apparently don't have the Asian aptitude for benching, according to my coach. :( Besides, don't you compensate for that with your celltech? :D

    About becoming a personal trainer

I don't think your average PTs know the last 3 very well. Didn't some dick tell you a while ago that hammies and glutes aren't used in a squat?
