    When do you consider a set "failed"

    Surely you don't fail a set, you fail a rep. And what about forced/assisted/partial reps? I guess it all depends on the goal of that set, whether you were planning on using a cheat to go beyond initial (strict full range form) failure or not, as to when the set is finished.

    I've heard of the ratio as 4:5:6 B: S: D but who cares anyway, everyone is different. Personally I can squat more than I deadlift. To the OP, you are FAR from pissweak, especially if you are a physique-oriented guy. I know people who have trained for many years and don't lift those numbers.

    I was just going to add, regarding the original point, I think that strong OH pressing translates reasonably well to prone pressing. The reason they may have a strong bench is less to do with their chest and more to do with their shoulders.

    Benching

    I agree with you in that determining the optimum grip widthfor you personally is important for safety and efficiency. But 'close grip' bench is an accessory exercise, primarily for triceps. I don't think anyone was suggesting powerlifting with a close grip. Our were they?
