Any recommendation on weightlifting belts ?

If you get a lever belt, make sure you get the USA made levers. The original Inzer lever that came with mine broke twice (replaced once obviously). Once was in the hole of a squat. I think I got my current replacement for Underground Elite and couldn't be happier.

Excellent work mate. Been following this on FB. Hopefully, will be looking to order some stuff later in the year.

Cookies 'n Cream just got released!

BN, Slightly OT, but do you have any samples of the flavoured pea proteins? I've been a long time user of the unflavored stuff and was hoping to try it before buying 10+kg.

    Weightlifting Shoes in Australia

Had my Do-Wins for maybe 4 years. A great shoe, still as new. The only option if you have a 'wide' foot I believe.

    Elite Performance Gym Brisbane

Looks pretty good apart for the word "Elite" in the branding.

Recommend me a gym in Brisbane

If St Lucia is still an option, the regular gym at UQ would fit the bill. 3 power racks, 3 platforms, Elieko bars, ABC/Ivanko plates etc Missing a few things but probably one of the better "regular" gyms around.

    Rts

A really good book. Not a program per se, rather a system that can be applied to almost any training method. I have just about every ebook/book ever put out it seems and this would be right near the top in terms of strength training ones. Certainly not for beginners or even many...

Just how crap are bodyfat% scales

BIA is actually fairly accurate, the problem is hydration levels (due to the way it works). Simply drinking more water can make big changes to the result. If you have them and want to use them, you need to be consistent in the timing etc. Eg first thing in morning after bathroom visit...

    Why are box squats harder

My box is a good 20kg higher than my free squat to same depth. It's probably, like everything, an individual thing. Most of the research I've seen on pro athletes (ie not lifters) have their box squat significantly higher than their squat (5-10%) example using rugby player means Locks n=121...

    Defrancos top 10 training myths

If you look at Miles Austins numbers when training at Defrancos he got him to drop a ton of weight but he was less powerful afterwards. Also amazing how many of his guys pb in the gym and not when it counts. Not hatin of JD, just supporting this pov.

    Training a union prop.

So most powerlifters in Oz could run a >20 yo-yo? There is a massive difference between research done on elderly people or college frat kids showing that weight training increases the aerobic system and the requirements for an athlete, in this case a rugby union player wishing to play premier...

    Training a union prop.

Don't have them in front of me but one was Appleby, Gesh Hori and I forgot the other names. Done with the western force and ECU. about 2009. Published in JASC. The other was a phd by a guy named Smart. Very recent, not sure if been published anywhere. Done with waikato players as most NZ...

    Training a union prop.

This scenario rarely happens in rugby, a little more often league, but even so it holds water for the first time in the game. What if that same guy has a mean RSS score of say 3.5s and you are 3.2s. After but 20 mins into the game you are substantially faster than he is. The collision idea is...

    Training a union prop.

I never said anything should be thrown out the window. MxS should be trained at all times (to varying degrees obviously) But the load/time required to go from a 200kg squat to 250kg wouldn't be worth the return. Being an athlete is about optimization not maximization. If his RSA is poor...

    Training a union prop.

There's alot of evidence to suggest that maximum strength and power is a discriminator in the rugby codes eg between club and professional, HOWEVER the numbers out of professional codes suggest that once a particular level has been achieved, other factors come into play. For Super rugby...

Sticky, I'm a professional rugby coach (ie I do it for my living) and have done my MSc in S&C, so kinda have both backgrounds covered. Feel free to shoot me any questions if you have any.

    Pat Mendes

In other news the sun rose this morning. Nothing wrong with people using if they don't compete in sports or un-tested sports, but the minute you step onto a legitimate WADA tested sport and fail a test it makes you a drug cheat, plain and simple. Sadly, for such a great gym, coach and lifters...

    Improving Your Sprints/Speed

Biggest mistake folks make with their speed work is not training for maximum speed. Speed needs to be trained fresh. Anything less than 90-95% of your best time over a distance is pretty much useless. Volume low. Recovery/Rest periods high. People will happily rest 5 mins between squats sets...
