World Power Shrug World Record (470lb)

If you did something this dumb and made a video for the whole world to see, you really should tell everyone you're on drugs. At least you have an excuse.

How much water weight can you lose in sauna?

Thanks Markos. I don't mind lifting in the heavier class (might just do so next comp), but I've learned recently that at this particular comp, if you don't make weight, you go play footy in the oval, no lifting allowed. :( I lift at 1pm, weigh-in at 11am, so I can sit in the sauna from 9-11...

How much water weight can you lose in sauna?

Will do. I'm just doing the maths now to get the worries out of the way. Although by worrying too much, I might just sweat enough now to make weight... :D Next comp I'll try not to be a fat arse for my weight class :( Making weight is just a pain!

    Chuck Taylors

Asics Matflex is a bit tight laterally, same with other wrestling shoes that the guys at Melb Uni wear. Love it for deadlift, haven't tried squatting in them (they feel like thick socks) but I reckon they'd be OK. If they were but a lil bit wider, they'd be perfect. Chucks are OK, but I prefer...

Say, in a couple of hours, can you lose a kg or two?

    PA raw Nationals - Melbourne

Records can be set at this comp. A few are going to establish new Raw records (apart from Scott Hill trying to break his own). Same with the equipped comp the following day. Does talc give you a better grip than chalk? Never heard of it till now.

5 more days. Now to make weight... hate that process! Spritcha, what happened to the Mighty Angus? I saw in Wilks' email today that he's out?

    Power lifting / strongman vids!

Derek Poundstone: that's no clean. The man reverse curled the bar up! He had to because of bicep injury.

    Coan at 91 Seniors

Love watching him lift. I have similar leverage (height, build, except I'm 15kg less) and so I'm trying to learn from his techniques, esp the half-sumo deadlift.

    Injuries

austy (a new lifter) in this very thread was squatting 80kg because of bad form. He was told he's just weak and needs to train harder. A little technique refinement in 2 weeks got him to squatting 105 for the same sets & reps. There goes your theory.

    Injuries

Ghosty, Tightness applies to raw just as much as equipped. All Melboure Uni lifters train raw 95% of the time, including the equipped lifters. That's just one equipped lifter you picked out. A 67.5kg of similar height in our club is Nghiep. He's squatted raw 170 for 3x5 (I don't know what his...

I don't know about the percentages, but lifters here go for PBs for 3 sets of 5 in training, and of course comp PBs.

    Injuries

I believe the assumption was that it's his gung-ho attitude pushing his body way harder than necessary that caused the injuries. Not form. The disagreement on form was about him telling novices that they should get strong while having bad form because it will develop strength even in bad ways...

Someone has the hots for Dave. He lifts that at the same speed as I do my first warm-up set. Scary.

Not enough carbs and not enough sleep perhaps? I'd check those two first. Works for me. If your session is really long (over 1h like mine) look into getting some carbs (shakes or sport drinks) while you're training.

I thought it was to push down on the squatter's back if his set looks too easy. Learn something new everyday.

Michael: ask your new friend out for drinks on this St Paddy's Day and enlist the good ol' wingman Mr Alcohol to help you out. :p That bod is too good to only try once.

    "Form"

Oh btw I'm one of the worst lifters in that gym (Robert calls us the loser division) so if you want someone to compare Gareth - one of your best - to, I can give you better examples. I'll happily compete with your loser division lifters, if you want.

Mate, don't post my embarrassing weak squat amongst the legends! The scary thing about Nghiep is that he only just got back to lifting after a few years off. His previous best deadlift was 240 for 3x5. He also is the most humble nice guy you'll ever meet, and doesn't look like someone who...
