Hate it. It's been 4 years, but used to be a good paying job for someone with only socialization skills and nothing else... But I'm 23, time for a career change!

Since 2010 I haven't worked a traditional job and I am loving it. Running my own business has been the most challenging and rewarding experience.

Not having to listen to any other idiot but yourself is brilliant. I will jump the west gate before I ever work for anyone else again. Ever.

I would LOVE to work for myself... Well done on all the hard work!

I work in security, full time at the casino, and casual work for another company. I love the work, but the money just isn't comparable to the mines, so I'm giving up the casino part to work north. Less hours than I do now and I'll be getting more than 50% more money.

What you do in the mines, and what sorta money?

For the money I get, not working past 5:30pm and never working weekends my job is ok. The blokes I work with are great, a big reason I stick around. The blokes I work for, I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire. The reason I'm looking elsewhere.

I get 10 sick days a year, five personal days a year, four weeks holiday and one RDO every four weeks. I've had seven weeks off this year so far with more still to come. All of this I love.

Early finishes are fucking great, avoid most traffic both ways. RDO's I'll look forward to.

Yeh I like my job. Have been an electrician since leaving school. 3pm finish helps! We do all sorts of work from domestic to massive construction. Craziest job was at a mental home, best was James packers house!

What state and how much you on mate??


As for me, boss and the boys are pretty chilled, early starts, early finish is great. Like my job a lot, hell better than being in an office like before.

Starting tomorrow just as day crew, $34/hour for my probation (3 months) then I'm planning on being signed across to the mine as a plant operator for about $94k a year. 8 days on, 6 off.

From what my mate says about it... sometimes they get people walk into the agency wanting to sell and that's awesome. But rest of the time you actually have to hit the pavement yourself in search of people who a) actually want to sell their house and b) want to do so via you.

Been thinking about mine work, and been in the Security industry the last 10 years, but those figures seem fairly low. My earnings are currently around that last figure (Due to just completing 'training' and my last job was a touch over).

I have mates that work in the mines doing OH&S and Emergency Services, pay is a tad better also, think around the $120k mark.

When I was interested in getting into it, I wanted to go for Emergency Service/Response Officer but with the tickets setting me back $10-15k and the time away from the Mrs, I decided against it.

I enjoy my work. It's taken me to a few places I would never have seen otherwise. I've travelled to the U.S, Canada and Europe all expenses paid, business class flights, the whole 9 yards.

Is it a long term career? Not really. I guess like most things it's just about finding the most effective and rewarding exit strategy to either start your own business or branch off into something similar.

Not really, I'm a carpenter, about to study my builders licence!!

Some days it's fine, I get sick of always having splinters, jamming my fingers, hitting my head on scaff, stupid apprentices hitting my with timber and nail guns cause they are gumby!!

I plan to get my diploma in construction then use the diploma to then go in to air traffic control while leasing my licence to a few developers I know, then I might look at actually using it myself down the track

Working as a head chef at the moment, and im not even tafe certified/formally qualified. Convenient as all hell as its maybe 50m from my house. Pay is alright, managing to bank 50% or more each week. Able to get to the gym when I need too except whenever its really busy which is rare.. Working weekends sucks ass though.

Have got a Bachelor in Earth science to go use in a few months. Career/lifestyle change.

Oh yeah, and I have an industrial kitchen to cook all my meals in. I rarely eat/cook at home, only on days off.
