The first ever PTC bench comp has been run and won. This comp was run in accordance with official powerlifting rules, with 3 official CAPO judges present and certified plates used. This is close to an official comp as you can get in a garage.

The lifting was in 2 flights, we used openers as a guide. First the lifters opening with less than 100kg as an opener went first. The second flight consisted of lifters with openers over 100kg.

There were some successful 4th attempts as well. Kelly made 152.5kg, that’s 7.5kg more than he did at the Vics.

Pete made 180kg after missing it on his 3rd attempt.

Big Pete also had a crack at the all time PTC bench record. The record stood at 180kg, set by Simon. Ange beat that with a paused 190kg, and following his paused 180kg effort, Pete took 191kg as a touch and go attempt at the PTC record.

  He smashed it.

Ange’s coach Barry wouldn’t allow him another attempt, so the record stays with Pete, a fantastic effort.

Ange won best bench for his 190kg @ 79.4kg. His Glossbrenner score was 125.628
Kelly managed a score of 96.389
  Pete’s score was 90.896
  Daryl got 86.951
  Ryan was next with 81.128
  Nina scored 63.186

Bodyweight for reps was next. Women lifted 75% of bodyweight, here are the results

  Ange 47 reps
  Kelly 27 reps
  Daryl 24 reps
  Nina 21 reps
  Pete 20 reps
  Dim 16 reps
  Ryan 15 reps
  Bender 14 reps
  Alen 13 reps
  Luke 13 reps
  Jonathon 8 reps
  Ghosty 8 reps
  Rob 7 reps
  Mick 7 reps
  Nick 6 reps
  Dave 2 reps
  Ronnie 1 rep

Ange broke the PTC reps record, previously owned by Shorty with 27 reps, Kelly equalled it.

Ange won the $550 bar provided by ABC and the $250 gift voucher, also kindly donated by ABC. The $100 voucher goes to Kelly who finished second in both events.

A huge thanks to the Australian Barbell Company for providing all the prizes on the day. Please support any company that supports lifting in Australia. Together with Australian Kettlebells, Bluegum and Gym Direct, they have provided all the equipment for PTC, and have always supported our competitions.

I’d like to thank Barry Murray, Louise Vu-Duy and Greg Gordon for refereeing the comp, Spiros for spotting and providing lift offs, and to all the supporters who came to watch.

This one was so successful I am planning to have a raw deadlift comp in a few weeks as we are still well short of raising the funds to get to the World Championships in September.

  More on this later.

  Cheers

  Markos
