Not sure if this has been posted yet but I saw this the other day so I used heat last night on my shoulder instead of ice, which is what I would normally do. Obviously no instant relief of pain last night but today its feeling much better, well enough to train at least.

Ice for trauma, reducing swelling.
Heat for increased blood flow, promoting recovery.

Crossfit science can be retarded at times. Didnt watch the video.

Crossfit science? you should watch it.

This is Kelly Starrett they guy who wrote 'Supple Leopard' which is very good.

I've watched on discovery channel that heating and icing could hand in hand to help your muscle recover from stress. It actually worked on athletes used on that study. They let the athletes train heavily, then afterwards, they let them soak themselves in a warm tub for about 30 minutes. After that, they bathe with called water and then they went on to train again and according to their testimonials, they actually felt that they were replenished after that warm then cold soaking.

Would like a link to this please:)

Contrast baths have been around since Roman times. Professional sporting clubs have done it for years - eg footy clubs jumping into Port Phillip Bay the morning after a game. Now they all have ice baths. You can do this at home with a shower after training - alternate hot and cold for a specified time period. Ideal length of hot and cold varies according to opinion. Google up on it and you'll find various ideas on how to do it.

deadlift11; I've watched it on TV so I'm not sure if it's on youtube. Google it maybe you're gonna find that episode. :D

Yes this statement is true, my sister is a Physiotherapist and she always remind me of that as the first aid especially if swelling is involved. One method I remember they call "R. I. C. E" (rest, ice, compression and elevation).

Please watch the video. It talks about RICE being incorrect hence the reason for this post

After years of conatct sport, RICE method worked well for me, but Ill check out this new idea for sure! Its always good to see new methods and the theory behind them

In the very least people should start voodoo flossing, I bought some and they are fantastic for the ankles and any leg related area.

Kelly Starret is the man though!

What is voodoo flossing.

Basically you get a band or some people use a bikes inner tyre tube and you wrap an area pretty tight and take it through ranges of motion to break up any scar tissue that's present.

Feels so good on my Shitty elbows.

Oh that. I used a bike inner tube. Tried it on my ankles, knees and elbows at various times. Gives you some nice bruises but can't say it ever did anything more than that.
