Become muscle-centric, and fat will come off your body. Alternatively, focus on losing fat through dragged on cardio, a la jogging etc, and you will gain fat long term. It’s all about ratios, ratios between muscle and fat. Resistance training (not necessarily with external weights), is the best way to train if your goal is long term fat loss and muscle gains and/or maintenance. Sets of 20 rep squats come to mind, or body weight step ups onto a milk crate etc, works a ton of muscles, muscle fibers that play a huge role in blood sugar stabilisation/lower insulin levels, and a better hormonal profile overall, especially as we get older.
