Anger at the gym

Sup guys

Have you ever experienced 'Squat rage' or just elevated anger in the gym? It seems to be growing in me now.

So today I was wanting to squat but the squat rack was taken by two dweeps who are from a local hockey team (some group with AIS), so I did bench press to start with.. then as soon as one of the squat racks was free, I said to myself "let's finish the last set of bench and head to it quickly"

But as I finished bench as per normal and got up to go the the squat rack, some middle aged woman beat me to it... and started using the barbel for really slow curls... I just lost it and loudly said "ahhhh for F U C K SAKE, it's a f u c k ing squat Rack!!!". Then she started to get all cranky saying "huh? why're u shouting. i didn't do anything wrong waah waah".

Anyway, I been getting a lot of this extreme anger recently particularly towards ppl who obstruct my workouts.. Anyone else get it?

Yeh I get it, if you get in the way of my workout while I am at home I stare you down. Happens to the dog and my wife funnily enough it does not work on either.

I think you should invest in some home gym equipment or find a new gym with more squat/power racks.

I try to go at times that those sort of people aren't there. For eg monday when everyone feels bad about what they've done on the weekend is a good one to avoid or at least avoid legs for that day.

I haven't experienced that type of rage, but I saw two big dudes punch it out in the gym carpark once :) Maybe one guy took too long on the squat rack:p

I considered myself a very flexible lifter when I was at the gym. By flexible I mean I could do whatever whenever the need arises. By the sound of it Rasika, the need to be flexible has risen with you but instead of bending with the wind you decided to snap off. Become flexible and all will be fine my friend...

Or as Bruce Lee once said in an interview; "become water my friend", (and assume the shape of whatever whenever) lest your rigidity break you...

Like getting physical with people curling in the squat rack? :p

Ah you're a funny man Ben :D!

No, not getting physical with anyone although that option was always on the table had it become necessary for me to use it. But what I meant earlier was that whatever exercise I had planned for myself to do in a particular workout, I could very easily change it into something else and keep the peace since I've always put others before myself in the gym and was always out to help or make lifting easier and more enjoyable to whoever the other person may be.

That's just me, I don't expect people to behave in like fashion since we're all different and each to his own I suppose...

Yes this happens when you go at
peak times!

You have to wait around (which is the
worst) or start back to front of your
work out!

Here's the solution I use. Like last night
when I wanted to do Squats all the racks
were 'busy'. Initial thought of mine was
WTF is going on? blah.. blah.. blah...

Then I said to myself this is life. Life is
unpredictable so handle it! move on to
a different exercise and come back.

I believe that Fadi has written an aswesome
article about this very kinda thing. Something
about "handling adversity or someting".

Sorry can't remember. But if anyone esle knows
what I'm talking about pls post..

i woulda dropped my gym shorts/ripped the shirt open and did a abs and thigh pose. Told em to move...

Then get escorted off the gym premises!!

if someone is using the squat rack and obviouslt doesnt needto . like if they doing curls or soemthing why not just ask them to move. i used to do it heaps.. if dudes were doing db presses or curls whilst standing in the rack id jsut ask them to move and no one ever said no..

I can understand your frustration, its times like these that trigger changes for the good sometimes.. like trying out another gym and finding something better
I never get angry at my current gym, because it was set up by a powerlifter for powerlifters. its perfect

hahaha some serious rage issues, although id say that to myself in my head and usually vent later on.
But 1 thing i am over is people using equipment when they are clearly there to have a chat with there mate, goes with majority of girls. E.g. then doing assisted chin ups while the weight is that much that a slight gust of wind would blow them up there while they talk to their mate.
Annoying yes but you just need to think ok what else can i do while it frees it.
