Do squats and leg press work the same muscles?

I have been doing leg press for awhile because my knees havent been up to doing squats but now i think i could start going back to squats. BUT...

The PT i saw said leg press works the same muscles as squats bar the staberlisers and is much safer on the back etc. Should i ignore her warnings and go strait back to squats or should i keep doing leg press... OR should i alternate between then... OR do both in the same day when i do my leg days???

At the moment im leaning towards doing both in the same session but i dont know if thats a waste of time because it hits the the muscles.

squat is a superior exercise , if you can perform them safely.and in good form.
I am training DC style , so we rotate between 3 different exercises.

Leg press is fine if you are nursing a back injury, but definately squats is superior, it's like a whole body workout.
