so the general agreed theory is that dead-lifts wont thicken the midsection?

There may be some slight hypertrophy but its highly unlikely that it will be noticeable.
 
its negligable, at the rate your lats, thighs, shoulders, and gluts grow comparably, your waist will actually start to look smaller, doing a balanced program.

did you see that silly article titled midriff, not deadlift somewere...trash...

So what's the verdict? DLs will not give you a thick waist? I love doing deadlifts but the lower back pain I tend to experience after, not so much...

Legs day twice a week for the last two years... deads on and off though... but squats, lunges and leg press ALWAYS
