Are Deadlifts necessary for a Bodybuilding routine?

Never had a problem with calluses but I sort of grip the bar in my fingers rather than right up in my hand. If that makes sence.

I got calluses really bad around the little finger. Knurling rips it off every few weeks. Shit happens.
 
Would a RDL be considered an assistance exercise if I want to increase mobility and strength in my hamstrings? I wish to do the standard deadlift in my SS programming, but then follow that up with some RDL's (with a lighter weight of course). Is that a good idea or would it be too much for my legs to handle?
