Overhead press thread

Attn Goosey,

Do you happen to do these 'shrugs' at the end of a set of dips?

Regards, KFG

That's a good question and I had to think hard why I don't.
I remember a discussion years ago on a forum which had regular posters like Kaz and Dr Ken...shit, that would have been circa 90's.

That question came up, you'll receive more benefit shrugging from a hanging position (arms above head) as the lat crosses over the shoulder and fully stretched, as it just squeezes out any exsisting strength.

That's not to say a shrug when dipping is bad, but these blokes always talked effacy and still do.

I personally like to finish a set of dips with very slow negatives while using a dip belt.

Felt weird today doing behind neck press, went to 65kg and did 6 reps (quite hard) but have done little training last 5-6 weeks.

Then did 3 reps on 80kg push press, and that was hard.

Me a bit weak at moment.

i do like standing presses better than bench though. Pity they dont have it as a sport any more.

Hepburn press course

Press 3 times a week.

Take a weight, lets use 50 kg and perform 3 reps, 5 sets.

Keep the same weight but add one more set each workout until you have done 10 sets with the 50 kg.

This will take you 2 weeks or 6 workouts.

Now drop back to 5 sets, 3 reps, but add 2.5 kg.

Continue the addage of 2.5 kg's every seventh workout.

A great course if you are stuck on a weight.

Going to try this. Have heard of it before sounds worth trying and have been stuck at 80-82.5 for fucking ages now.

I'd be really interested To see how it goes for you.

When I did this I just added it to my workouts, first exercise.
I added 20kg to my press from memory.

Other exercises suffered.

In hindsight It might do better as a stand-a-lone workout

I did that for a while.

dont think i will do much good at powerlifting given i need to keep bodyweight down for aths, but there is no way i am not going to do 100kg in the overhead press in my 50s before i have finished.

but it will have to be a clean and press to make me feel happy.

Actually I believe this is now a lift in some emerging NA powerlifting associations

Not to mention a great lift to bring up the bench press

It use to be one of the power lifts

Bent row should be the fifth.

If you press re-appears it won't be for long.
