Questions in regards to Smolov.

I did a 160kg base cycle, took me to 180kg, and my deadlift also increased as well.

All I did was squat because it was hard, very hard.

Yep. See many crazy workouts week after week. :)

When you gunna join us tommy?

Would love too.... Sick of the bro curlers in my gym...

Between uni, work, two kids, and wifey....

I'm lucky just to train... Current gym is 5 minutes away... PTC is prolly 45minutes...

But will be there at the 3 lift comp later this month...

Yeah understandable mate.
Yeah ill be there :p

at the moment im travelling 30mins each time. 50 on weekends :(

That shit works to bring up a lagging lift. It is held in awe because it is brutal and effective. When you look at the lifts on paper you think there is no way that is doable it pushes you just short of the brink of failure.

Oni you bang on like you are the world guru of lifting. Yes you have a strong dead and squat relative to your weight, but how effective has your programming been at bringing up your bench which from memory is nothing spectacular. Maybe you could benefit from a cycle of Smolov jr. to get that BP moving.

OP read this thread.

Smolov Squat Cycle

Then PM your email and I will flick you a spreadsheet I have.

LOL I think I just got well baited by Oni. Awaiting statistical shitstorm that will be your response to this post.

I did smolov jr for bench and it added 2.5kg
Th-thanks internet for your wonderful guidance once again

Obviously as bench is the lightest of the big 3 (well should be) the amount of increases should be smaller. Especially if the bench is a lower weight to start with. What % increase was that? Was that the 3 week base cycle? Were you plateau'd before? If so, then progress is progress.

Ok im going to post before another shit storm happens lol

I said that smolov was used by people that cant Program. One look at tbag nation and bb.com will show you this. When people stall then they will often go to shit like smolov because they dont know how to get out of the rut themselves. Using my bench as an example i got a 2.5kg increase after running smolov jr on my stalled bench. I did not learn shit from it though. You need to learn how to do this shit yourself because you cant just run smolov forever. Smolov works just because its more volume than youre used to. Increased volume is the best way to get stronger imo and i dont see why you need a special russian program to do what you can easily do yourself

I dont understand why people got in uproar over this and how ben sticky moons or whoever are all strong and can program etc etc. if that is the case with someone then i dont see why you would think what i am saying would even apply to them as i was talking about people that used it because they knew no better so its completely irrelevant lol

Your just out on the troll path Oni.

You better sit down for this Oni but I agree with you and this goes for every other routine out there not just the Smolov stuff.

Running yourself into the ground overdoing the volume is not going to work. The programme is written specifically to push you to the brink of overwork but stop just short of it.

If you think you know better why aren't we all running a high volume programme called the Oni.

The difference between a productive so-called program and an unproductive so-called program is fundamentally two things:

Your belief in the program
And how hard you actually work - both are tied-in.

Yep these are the most important things.

This moving into another territory of ones ability to recover from one workout to another which will be different for most

Everyone has vastly different work capacities so what you said is bullshit. Its not desinged for that at all and i dont know why youre talking about running yourself into the ground because i didnt even mention that. I just said that you need to increase your volume over time which can easily be done without overtraining

The implication of your post was that you know more about programming than whoever wrote the programme.

Given that you are neither a competitive lifter or an accomplished strength coach, I think you alot like myself know fuck all about programming. Unlike Freako and Sticky who I would say are qualified to make comments on the subject.

Jeez, this turned into a shitfight didn't it...

1. Someone's choice of program should not be reflection upon them or their intellect unless it is an obviously stupid choice. Some people just can't be bothered programming when their are tons of pre-written templates out there. 0ni made it sound like that anybody who chose a popular pre-written template over writing their own program was an idiot but this is clearly bullshit.

2. Smolov is a good high-volume, high-intensity specialisation program. Nuff said.

Opinions will vary

But it tickles me when a band of bro's jump on a written program based on some fellow lifting a high set of numbers.

As opposed to jumping on the bandwagon of mediocrity by following a bro who doesn't back his bullshit up with runs on the board.

No, not at all fluffy.

More often than not we tend to focus too much at what the stars are using now rather than what got them started.

That is all, peace out.
