[Article] Force development across %'s of 1rm (and a bit of rock climbing)

This is an article for the nerds regarding strength training. It has a graph of peak force developed during deadlifting, measured (I think) from a pressure plate underneath the feet of the lifter. www.homebuiltstrength.com/?page_id=492 Interesting conclusions... Always lift as fast as possible...

    1RM Testing

I'm looking to test my 1RMs over the next couple of days. What is the best way to go about it (i.e. in terms of starting point, warm-up reps, rest periods, etc.)?

    20 rep sets

I've read many times about the benefits of 20 rep squat sets, and I've started adding a set of 20 reppers at around 60% of my 1RM at the end of my squat session. Needless to say they are fucking hard and get a bit messy. Oh well, no pain no gain. Anyway, is it smart/sensible/advised/beneficial...

    Estimated 1rm formula

Any suggestions on a good (accurate) 1rm formulas? Its nearly two months since I started training and I am going to test my 1rm's every two months. Unfortunately didn't do it at the start so will have to use an estimate.

    1RM vs Daily Training

I am slightly confused about the 1RM max lift and day to day training, and I am looking for some advise. I have recently added 18kg to my 1RM Squat (127.8kg to 145.8kg) as well as 8.8 kg to my Dead Lift (153.4kg to 162.2kg), I am very happy with these results, but just wondering if I should be...

Topic of the Week - What Do You Consider "Old School" Strength Training?

What Do You Consider "Old School" Strength Training? We hear it all the time "Old School" Strength Training , back in my day we did things like this , things were so much simpler with all these fangled strength training ideas and e a zillion pieces of equipment at your disposal to get...

How big/small is the gap between your 20rep weight and 1RM weight?

Just wondering how much difference you have between your 20 rep squat and 1 rep max squat weight? For me it is about 40kg. Looking through other people's training journals, my gap makes my 1rm look weak, but on the other hand, what does that say about people with a larger gap? Could this...

    1RM vs Max Reps

Ive noticed a lot of people on this site prefer to gauge their progress by how many reps they can do of a certain weight rather than by the maximum weight they can lift once. Personally i love doing 1RM and aiming for new PB's its what i train for, to find out what my absolute maximum strength...
