2013 IPF Raw World Championships (Suzdal, Russia)

the sub-junior from Russia basically did an Olympic style squat on 237.5kg; Bell USA 270kg (deep and hard grind); the Russian junior 272.5kg (more in tank), Ukranian 265kg.

There is an American 93 junior in the IPF, Jesse Norris, who would smash this and is probably the most promising lifter in the world. Early this year, he totalled 839kg at 90kg, 19 years old, in the USAPL, but missed the USAPL nationals and therefore didn't qualify for Worlds. Bummer for us all.

Huge efforts by Webb - bronze deadlift with 285kg in the 83s - he also PB'd every lift and total PB by about 20kg.
and Jovecevic - bronze bench press with 172.5kg bench at 83.

Medalling in open IPF world champs is a massive achievement.

Great heart shown by Nev to recover from almost bombing in the squats. He did an easy 212.5kg during his skills test, without a deload, so would've gone into this hoping for much better. Squats were just too deep on the day. He was well below his best on the other lifts too so not sure what went on. It can't be easy travelling so far to compete in foreign territory.

yes, good achievements, but it is the total that counts. Aust long way off pace. Hopefully we will get one total medal in open class.

At IPF Worlds, they award medals for individuals lifts too, but obviously the total is the true measure.

We have one total medal already - John Cauchi won silver in the junior 66s.;)

I think we have 3 more chances.

Katie Tushuzien (84 women's) is in the box seat and SP is in with a shot. If Hozjan can put it all together, he could surprise a few. Despite showing 300 deadlift as his qualified, he only narrowly missed a 340 raw deadlift (lost grip right at the top). He gets near this lift again, he will push for a total medal.

340? You mean 321 at Pacific? I believe something punctured his finger from his ammonia cap just before he went out to lift and weakened his grip.

Yeah the glass inside the ammonia cap cut his finger up pretty bad. Bled everywhere. Poor John Myers was retracing his footsteps trying to clean it all up.

Cam McKenzie is also a chance in the Junior 120s. His bench has improved significantly since Nationals and his squat is always going up.

Not bad for a guy who runs 5/3/1...
