The man seems to be frustrated with his congress. As we know in bodybuilding (as in other facets of our lives), it's plain insane to expect different results when you hold on so dearly to what you've been doing for years. Different results demand a change, otherwise it's wishful thinking mixed with delusion to expect anything else from what you've been getting all along.

Listening to the president's speech, I'm hearing him discuss introducing different measures in order to achieve different results, and perhaps reduce that figure of 30,000 death a year, to 28,000 etc.

Is the gun to blame? Or is the person behind the gun to blame? Whichever side of the debate you take sides with, one thing we all agree on (I hope), is the system that is currently operating in place today in the US, is simply not working, irrespective of the "why"! If you were the president of the United States of America, or a member of its congress, what measures/changes would you introduce to improve this seemingly hopeless situation the US finds itself in?

A measure of zero tolerance policing was introduced by several US states, where minor crimes were lumped in with major crimes, leading to some calling this measure a zero tolerance police state instead of zero tolerance policing. To give an example that would illustrated why that could be, here's a copy & paste for you that deals with drugs:

There's a new front in the "War on Drugs" and its name is DUID. DUID, short for "driving under the influence of drugs," is the latest buzz word among politicians and police -- however, in this case, words can be deceiving.

Though billed
by its proponents as a necessary tool to crack down on persons who operate a motor vehicle while impaired by illicit drugs, in reality, many newly proposed DUID laws -- in particular "zero tolerance" per se laws -- have little to do with promoting public safety or identifying motorists who drive while intoxicated. Rather, these laws potentially classify many sober drivers as impaired under the law solely because they were presumed to have consumed a controlled substance -- particularly marijuana -- at some previous, unspecified point in time...

Yep, I think the U.S.A. has two major problems; firstly its quite an unfair and ruthless system with regard to the disadvantaged in their Society. Secondly, their gun laws give an easy option for those with "bad intent".

I heard that the U.S. had its highest rate of Gun sales last month as everyone stocked up just incase Obama made it harder to obtain weapons.

I hope someone suggests that the restriction of rights for the law abiding majority due to the actions of a criminal minority is worth pursuing if it saves "arbitrary number here" lives.

Look at how many Australians get killed via Guns and how many Americans get killed via Guns. The Laws of the two Countries are vastly different, so are the death rates. Coincidence? I thinks not!

Post a pic of your Guns pls Von :D

And more than a million die every year because the US health care system is out of reach for so many.

its always entertaining when people in other countries comment on the US constitution and the second amendment. The average American couldn't care less about our views, in fact most of them probably don't even know where Australia or Great Britain are on a map.

consider that the UK is one of the most violent places to live in European region, despite its restrictions on firearm ownership. Gun violence still happens, knife vileness still happens, all manner of violent crime is on the rise.

violent crime has increased in Australia since the gun buy-back, it doesn't require a firearm to be violent. The criminals still get guns somehow. Criminals don't tend to obey gun laws for some reason - I know, how astonishing! The guy in the Lindt seige possessed a gun that was never licensed in Australia to start with. The model 10 S&W revolver used to shoot the police accountant looks suspiciously like one of those ex-cop or security guard Saturday night specials. Yep, take the guns away from law abiding citizens, that'll stop crime. Martin Bryant was at that time in unlawful possession of the firearms used to murder people in Tasmania - gun laws made no difference to him.

it serves the government to disarm the population. This is a carry-over from the British imperialism and is an infringement on freedom that a modern, independent nation such as Australia should completely reject. The British lost their little colony in America to those who sought freedom, and, despite Howard's achievements as PM, he was a snivelly little ring kisser to the monarch and the Empire when he unilaterally acted to confiscate certain firearms.

Clint Eastwood My Twilight Years at 84. ...

If you realize each day is a gift, you may be near my age. As I enjoy my twilight years, I am often struck by the inevitability that the party must end. There will be a clear, cold morning when there isn't any "more." No more hugs, no more special moments to celebrate together, no more phone calls just to chat. It seems to me that one of the important things to do before that morning comes, is to let every one of your family and friends know that you care for them by finding simple ways to let them know your heartfelt beliefs and the guiding principles of your life so they can always say, "He was my friend, and I know where he stood."

So with that being said.... just in case I'm gone tomorrow, please know this: I voted against that incompetent, lying, flip-flopping, insincere, double-talking, radical socialist, terrorist excusing, bleeding heart, narcissistic, scientific and economic moron currently in the White House! Participating in a gun buy-back program because you think that criminals have too many guns is like having yourself castrated because you think your neighbors have too many kids. Regards, Clint

Make my day—Pass it on!

many years ago ,friends of my sister went to the states , they had only just left the airport when their taxi got held up and they witnessed the taxi driver getting shot in the head point blank range

america has ten times the population of Australia and has more guns, therefore more people will die via guns.

our per capita violent crime rate is nothing to be proud of - its getting worse even if there a fewer violent crimes that involve the use of a firearm. I certainly feel less safe now than I did 20 years ago and in those days half the people in the street had a pump action shotgun or semi auto rifle in the bedroom wardrobe or under the bed.

funny thing is, and this is an unfortunate fact for the hoplophobic anti-freedom movement; there are more firearms on issue to law abiding citizens in Australia now than there were before the gun buy back and the rate of ownership is significantly increasing. Yet the incidence of violent crime that involves a firearm has decreased.

people in my house own firearms of every category allowable under State law. We use them responsibly and often. Then we put them away. Shooting still makes my dick move. So does lifting weights and farting in an elevator.

I also live in a state whose laws include the castle doctrine. Would I? I guess it depends on the circumstances.

Let them keep their guns, there must some more injuns out there to kill and stage robbers to protect themselves from

Sorry Von. I read your first post and realized it was just N.R.A. type propaganda. I couldn't bare to read this one. My apologies mate :)

Yep, and on the 16th of December I went head first into the ground and a 500lb quad bike landed on me, smashing my skull open, plucking out my right eye and almost severing my spine at the neck. My kids helped me out and clean up the gore.

I guess we should ban quad bikes.

It would be propaganda if it were false. Simple reality is, borne out by the cold hard facts, more guns are on issue in Australia now than at any time in history yet the incidence of violent crime that involves the use of a firearm has decreased.
