Ok all you Einsteins, tell me your thoughts on bacon.

Most guys here go for protein, protein and then more protein....for obvious reasons. What about bacon though....it ain't too lean, is it a good part of the weight trainers diet?

I rarely have it at home, however I make frequent work trips and go ballistic with the bacon at the hotel brekky buffet. I load almost embarrassing amounts on to the plate. Sometimes I feel guilty, sometimes I feel like who gives a fuck? However, more and more I'm thinking I should cut back on that shit. I think particularly when you're in your 40s and beyond you need to start thinking about saturated fat, clogged arteries etc. I wanna be healthy, should I ditch bacon?

drooling...... bacon. ooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I really don't see any problems with bacon, provided you only eat the meaty part. Obviously its pretty high in salt, but I don't think that's a problem for most trainers either considering the quantity of water consumed in and around training.

That said, I still only have it very rarely, but I don't feel guilty when I do...

I eat it occasionally. No where near as much as lean meats. It definitely helps me reach my minimum fat targets when I do eat it. I also only eat the "good" bits. I don't know why people eat the rind. That's for the dogs :)

I also use this if it counts :)

What other food addictions do you have?

I'll have a few rashes of bacon once a week.

I think that if we want to look good we have got to minimize processed crud.

More often than not; eliminating crud completely, fatty tissue will yoyo, so in the looong term it's wise to eat mainly a wide variety of un-processed while rewarding yourself with the occasional piece of crud.

Food addiction is insipid, I'll only have to drive past maccas and I start to salivate.
Walk down the isle at woolies and drool at the thought of a packet of twisties.
After dinner, I'll crave a piece of chocolate, so I have a piece and crave another, but I've worked out if I wait 15 minutes it passes and feel better for not eating it.

I do have a food addiction, but it's a lot more controlled than it was five years ago.

Bacon should be a staple in any serious weight trainees diet.

I also find that bacon is a good entree, and side, to bacon.

I too have food addiction, but for the most i can controll it.

It just pisses me off when the Missus starts eating Rocky Road or delicious potato chips in front of me.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

That would shit me.

You often hear a fat bastard say; "I can't understand why I'm so fat I've always eaten this way".

But my suspicion is it's not just happened overnight, but through many years of overeating, the fatty goes on a diet loses weight quickly, feels shit-house and returns to eating those addictive comfort foods.

It seems to me that if it has taken say, 15-20 years to add this fat it would also seem to make sense that (for a diet to be successful) one would really need the same amount of time to lose it?

By the time you hit forty you will gain an appreciation/understanding of how important mobility and weight control contribute to a piece of happiness.

So all you young bastards eat all the bacon you want, one day you will be sitting in a dark room all alone dewing on a bit of bacon and wondering were the fuck did that gut come from.

There are two food groups, foods that contain bacon and foods that do not contain bacon. It is important to eat a balanced diet and enjoy foods from both groups every day.
