The pyramid was pushed heavily in the 70's to 80's in schools mainly, obesity was not an issue then, mainly cholesterol, which was connected with heart disease.

This. Hasn't this exact one been posted before. Nothing new here.
Any diet that has you cutting out multiple beneficial food groups is very suspect right from the start. Sure you can live without eating carbs but you can also live for roughly 3 days without water, so who here is doing that? Because you don't need carbs doesn't mean it's better for you to avoid them either.

youve really confused me with this one Mick. You seem to be agreeing with bazza that we don't need carbs to survive, but do need water to survive, and then you say it is the dumbest thing you've ever read??Read this back to yourself, it is probably up there with the dumbest thing I have ever read another the the sky is green scenario from Bazza world.
Water is essential for survival, a huge part of our body is made up of water, we need water to hydrate if we get deprived of it but have everything else we will die in a relatively short time, we don't need carbs at any time, the body will quite happily live on proteins and fats, cut out all fats and metabolic function will suffer, cut out protein and see what happens. There are no benefits to carbs, there are no essential carbs, carbs are like someone else here already mentioned mere entertainment.
What multiple beneficial food groups are cut out?? And what exactly are these benefits you speak of??
Just because something has been manufactured and accepted as food does not make it essential and does not make it a food group.
I cant train without carbs.
I just cant.

Sorry, I can't agree with you there. Just because we don't need something to survive doesn't mean there isn't a benefit. We don't need coffee to survive but it had a huge positive affect on the body.
Carbs are a fast acting fuel source. For anyone working out in an anaerobic state, it will fuel your muscles and replenish glycogen. Carbs also trigger an insulin response. For people who don't train and don't require an immediate energy source, this will trigger fat storage. But for people who do train, insulin is a hormone that will turn the body anabolic.
