    The PB Thread

Wow, you smoked that Oni! Nice work man. Had my first comp on the weekend at ESP. Was an awesome day with a few 300kg deads to finish the comp off and then a good feed. Squat 180kg (wraps), Bench 120kg and Dead 205kg @94.3kg breaking the 500 barrier and only missing a 4th bench attempt...

    Can this really be happening!

The guy in the video is James Smith, he definitely knows what he's talking about. If you are trying to mimic the form from a Rippetoe vid then there could be problems because it might not be the best form FOR YOU. Oni is right, do what hurts less even if a guru says otherwise.

FS - Weight Plates and a pair of Gym Chains (Melb)

Won an auction on eBay and it contained weight plates I didn't need. The chains are the last pair I have from a thread that I made a while back. - 2 x 20kg Olympic Rubber Coated Plates in good condition, $70 ono for both. - 38kg of various AP Sports Standard Weight Plates, good condition no...

    Surgery before comp

Thanks Adam, I was going to take openers 10-12 days out but I think your right. Oh and congrats on that nice bench I saw the other day, 170 looked pretty smooth!

    Surgery before comp

Hahaha nah man. It's for a deviated septum/turbinate reduction from a badly healed broken nose that I got in a Karate tournament a while back. Ive had it done before (2005) but when I stopped fighting I didn't see the need to get it fixed again. I like the new avatar Oni, looks like Grossman...

    Surgery before comp

So I've been training for a gym comp on 29th June and have just found out a surgery I was planning to have in Aug/Sept now has to happen on May 27th due to Doc being away from July to mid Oct. It is a gym comp but I was preparing for it properly as it's my first comp and this threw a little...

    Ghr

Considering RDL's/SLDL's only work the hip extension articulation of the hamstring I'd say that they aren't all you need. So for the time being I'll take the advice of Dave Tate over yours, even though you had quite enthralling argument with some good facts to back up your stance. This is...

    Tsunami Barbell

I first saw it on a Dan John DVD, he did it with chains on a barbell. Which is basically the same principle affecting stabilty, just to a lesser degree. It's definitely not a party trick, but neither is it Secret Weapon X designed by a mad scientist. Just another tool man. Oh and Crossfit do...

    Ghr

The down angle of the pad helps maintain knee contact with the pad even with a vertical body position. Without the angle you can drop straight through when you reach the top of the movement. I've tried several GHR's and heres what I thought. EliteFTS GHR is the best I've used, but as Graham...

    Pushup and Pullup Conditioning

Great stuff man! I'll have to actually do this properly on an off day or something. Might I ask bodyweight? If you're heavier than me then I'll be really sad lol

Do gym's (fitness centre's) have responsibilities?

If I were the owner of the gym I wouldn't let her train without at least a letter from her doctor, not in good conscience. "If there's something wrong, those who have the ability to take action have the responsibility to take action."

Fadi on muscle fibres & more...

Sorry but you need to get your terminology right. Muscle fibres = All or Nothing Principle. Motor Units = Size Principle. Some people think they know what they're talking about but have a lot of holes in their post's. Like eccentric strength! It's stronger by about 30% when compared to...

    Failure not necessary for hypertrophy?

Well said. From a physiological standpoint, the only difference between going to failure as Dark said it, to total muscular concentric failure or leaving a few reps in the tank is that the highest threshold motor units wont be recruited and therefore not exhausted. Failure isn't an absolute...

No Bull Supps - Customer Service Review

When it comes to buying things yeah you're right mate, I get car parts from the States a lot too and the service is really good. Was referring to the attitudes mostly. A little OT, what car stuff do you get? I get most of mine from Summit racing for the LS I'm building.

No Bull Supps - Customer Service Review

That's good to know that you went so far to find out what happened. Could you tell me what you found out? As for "constant communication", that ceased on the 27th of Feb, then I started the PayPal process on 1st of March which ended on the 22nd of March, so that leaves a month without any...

    Pushup and Pullup Conditioning

A little while ago Martin Rooney put an article up about 100 pushups in 4 minutes (T NATION 4-Minute Push-Up Test) but I thought the addition of pullups would make a big difference. So I've been adding this challenge to the end of my Speed Bench session to increase work capacity. Either 100...
