sure, we can always do things better, but I suppose the real 'moral' of the story for us evil westerners is producing enough food that is affordable so we can all eat.
Yes, we are not perfect, but don't offer simplistic do gooder summaries generalising about the West's supposed lack of morality when addressing food issues.
If it was all about profit, then our practices would not have improved over the years. Reality is that western societies are increasingly modifying to find right balance.
This is the thing. It's is all about profit, running anything at a loss is not sustainable in the long term. No one is farming for a loss, it's too hard a work to do it for fun.
It's what the consumer wants, cheap food. One reason why we are getting larger and larger farms is because the profit margins are tiny.
It's about profit and like I said healthy animals are always the most profitable and being about profit is why we are fine tuning our methods all the time. Unlike religious methods which are concreted in their ways.
I don't know why people see making money as a negative. We all have to do it.
