I am currently writing an academic piece on the role of govt with regard to powerlifting in oz given 2018 events.

I am hoping that ordinary PA members, and other powerlifters, can help me with my research. for example, pa members could write to their ceo and ask why it was necessary to interfere in the APU's bid to get user pay drug testing with sports drug testing international, as reported by the ABC on the radio show 'The Ticket'. while the APU is in its early stages of development, and may have work to do, how can stopping the apu getting drug testing be beneficial to the promotion of drug free powerlifting?

also, any concerns can also be posted on this thread, including towards the apu which will always look for the best ideas from all.

good question.

however, I am focusing on the reality that govt was involved in 2018 with its support of pa. if the govt is going to be involved, it needs to do its job properly or get out of supporting such a sport.

yes, but when they are involved, they need to maximise their funding and do their job properly.

no, but they can ensure process is fair and no obstacles are presented to anyone wanting private drug testing. according to the ABC, the obstruction was from an organisation recognised by govt as the governing body for sport in oz.

I'd be offended if the board of any company I was involved with wasn't doing everything it could to crush the competition without breaking corporations law.

It may be sport but it is still business and business gets ugly sometimes.

I have no dog in this fight however so let the spoils go the victor.

Ohh, goody. You found something to do in place of training.

Translation: Wilks has cut me off as I have been pissing him off so can you guys be my bitch and write nasty letters as my point of view is right and "everyone knows this" (just like Trump).

Done and done. Wait, APU is monitoring the Ausbb forum for ideas as to how they run things? Really? Or do you mean that you will cherry pick anything that makes you look "smarterer" and pass that on?

If APU is monitoring this forum, and by extension, this thread, I have message:

Hello to all! Hope your training is going well! See you in Calgary next month! Hang in there, eventually all the dust will settle and life will be less stressful. Thanks for the new track suit. It looks great. Haven't seen the new lifting singlets yet but it's gotta be better than that horrific bright yellow one from PA a few years back. If in doubt, deadlift!!!

.... an organisation recognised by govt as the governing body for sport in oz.

Well, there you go.

The government has legislated for drug testing in sport. It has made this easier to implement by having a range of recognized sporting organisations such as the AFL, NFL, Swimming Australia, Powerlifting Australia, etc.

There is no allowance for a second or third organization to represent a sport. That would be silly, unproductive and counterproductive to the initiative to keep a handle on drug testing in sport. Remember, ASADA compliance isn't just having someone piss in a cup and then getting a very expensive lab to analyse the results. You have to have in place a process where results are received and acted upon in a timely and legally binding manner, so that if anyone is pinged, then they can be sanctioned or dealt with without suing the sporting body for slander or damage to their reputation. They also would need to have in place all sorts of other functions, such as dealing with TUE's, etc.

That's not to say that a second sporting body can't get their chit together enough to make that happen, but if there's already a functioning sporting body who does all that, why would the government want to dilute the mix?

What benefit would there be for the government to deal with two (or three or four) swimming organizations, or Aussie Rules organizations, or powerlifting organizations, or olympic lifting organizations?

============

Just for the record, I have nothing against the APU, I have nothing against PA. I do think that the IPF is sitting back and pissing themselves at the expense of Australian lifters (not Australian powerlifting feds, the lifters) all because of a personal spat between Gaston and Wilks. The root of all this is, mostly, (allegedly) the apparent lack of transparency in drug testing all nations. Think Icarus.

Maybe Sparty would be more useful if he picked up a barbell and started lifting instead of asking us to be his spies on a ego driven mission. What did Wilks say or do to you to make you so pissed off? Who hurt you Sparty? Who hurt you?

wow, kevin Aitken. what can I say.

just reinforces what the apu knows about you, you do not know what you are talking about.

did you here that APU, kevin Aitken reckons I am on an ego trip. he would rather I have done nothing so it all would have been business as usual.

what an aussie this guy is. weak as piss, no matter how much he can lift.

not one thing to say about apu saying getting interference with its drug testing bid. I wonder why?

woody, you should ask wilks why he resigned from the anti-doping commission of the ipf.

but hey, you would not care as a softcock who supports the status quo, would you.

I did post that link to Icarus, didn't I? Do the math. Go on. Do it. 1 + 1 = ? Come on, you can do it.

I'm not "an aussie" (sic), dipstick. Not that it would make any difference, right? Powerlifting is about personal physical strength using 3 different lifts, not nationality.

You must have missed that bit:

So, maybe you can explain that bit for me. I'm not saying they shouldn't do it, but what motivation is there on the government's side to accept it? Not talking about right or wrong, good or bad, just pure logistics.
