Anyone got some good ideas for neck exercises without requiring a head strap? Bands?

From my experience, it's best to leave it alone, unless you have a bio-mechanically safe way of applying resistance in strengthening equally to extension, flexion and side bend of the neck.
 
Potential neck DOMS? No thanks, lol
Should get bigger over time anyway. Even mine has become a footy neck, coming from pencil thickness originally
Wish the mass was on my limbs quite frankly
